Just wanted to get a 2nd opinion on the light needs for ricordeas. I'd like to put a couple in our 100g but we don't have much lighting (260W PC). Are these able to live & thrive in this kind of lighting? I posted a similar question on another board but have only one response so far and would like to get more than one person's input.

Thanks!

Chris

i would think that they would do "ok" if placed at or near the top of the reef. power compact floros lack the "punch" to reach down thru the water column to the bottom of the tank.

I have orange ricordia under power compacts and under the thick tinted center brace. There were 3, now there are 7. I'd say pc's are ok so long as you have the range of actinic to 10K. They do like bright light, so don't place them under the shade of something and certainly not the center brace like I did. It just worked, so I left them alone there.

I can tell you from my limited experience and observations that if your ricordea extends is stalk and reaches up towards the lights you need more lighting. Conversely if it stayed close to the rockwork and blooms outward along the rock it is getting enough light to be happy. Good luck, I love ricordea!

I have 2 tanks with ricordias. The one in the tank with MH stays flat. The ones in the small tank with PCs extend theirselves upward. They seem to do well in both thanks. They are multipling!
