I stopped by the new shop on Nacogdoches that I believe will be called Fin Addict. The owner is Felipe Flores. He said he is planning on opening in June. His plans for opening in March were set back by an "accident."
He is going to be a reef oriented LFS and SW only. He is going to be selling custom glass tanks. He had some interesting triangular shaped tanks. He also said he is investigating patenting a "unique" wet/dry, sump, refugium system.
Felipe said that he wasn't planning on carrying a huge inventory of livestock and inventory but rather was going to try to carry unusual and unique items. He also said he wanted to be able to custom order anything that he didn't have immediately available. He said he doesn't "do" computers and I don't think he understands the impact the internet has had on the hobby as far as product availability is concerned. He is also planning on selling SW related art work from some friends of his. He also mentioned some blown glass pieces that he said made interesting media for coral propagation.
I was impressed with the lay out of the shop. Especially some nice show tanks. I guess my overall impression was that the shop was going to be different than any LFS I had ever been to. I guess time and the hobbyist market place will determine what impact he has.
