hey all,
my friend gave me a used 400w hps ballast. and i plan on rewiring it up to see if i can get a metal halide bulb to work with it, but i need a bulb to test it out. if you happen to have a spare bulb that you don't need, and that isn't burnt out, i would appreciate it if i could use it. if you like, i could offer a trade of some sorts. thanks in advance!

i removed the ignitor from the circuit, and screwed in a 250w10kK bulb, and it fired up! awesome! i wonder how long it will work?????

As long as the output voltage to the bulb is same for both it will live normal live. In standard lighting the bulbs use the same voltage and the filament resisitants draws more current which means more watts.

here is some pics of the lighting in my tank.
one is of the single overdriven 250w 10000k metal halide bulb with 400w rewired hps ballast the other is with dual 250w 20000k metal halide with 250w ballasts.
