Im not sure. They are either percs or some type of saddleback. I get diffrent opinions from everyone :)

I believe that your clam is a squamosa. Very nice though!

Prettysure those are A.polymnus - saddleback clowns. I traded my pair to Dave (prof) not long ago and those are the exact ones I had.

looks like a large derasa clam and a small maxima clam pictured to me! both look great in your tank.

Don't deresa have a smoother shell than most other clams?

the crocea i have has a smooth shell, the maxima and derasa has flutes. the clam pictured has an extended mantle that is quite larger than i am use to seeing on squamosa, that's why i think its a derasa too. maybe someone with some more experience will chime in8)

I thought crocea's had minimal scutes and maxima's and squamosa's have well defined scutes and deresa's do not have any. Of course, this is from looking at picture's and such at ClamsDirect and the clams that I have gotten from Barry and Jim.

According to Daniel Knop's book Giant Clams, Derasas have a smooth shell, Squamosas have scales. It also has a picture of a dersa's mantle that matches alex's squamosa.(page 92 & 121)

the clam in the center is without question a squamosa. Derasa clams all have smooth shells. I believe that the name actually means "smooth". Anyone who has a derasa with scutes has an incorrectly named clam. Sqamosa clams do get very large. I have had a 14" blue spotted one in the past - unfortunately died.

Oh... yeah
Nice sammie Alex! How big is he?
I have two squamoasas myself. They are very hardy and grow fast.

They are saddlebacks. I have a pair in my 50G cube. The female likes to host in one of my Crocea clams. It doesn't seem to bother the clam so I don't worry about it. She will hover just above the clam and snuggle up in the clam from time to time. The clam stays fully extended and will close up slightly when it gets irrated, but it never seems to stay closed more than a few seconds.

Squamosa without a doubt.
