a couple days ago I added a handful of the red dragons tongue algae from my 10g clownfish tank to my 55g fowlr, with a maori wrasse and a damsel in it. well, now the clownfish have come up with ich (I got them a week ago) and im afraid i have inadvertently introduced ich into my 55. are the chances pretty good of this? i sort of shook out the algae, but I didnt rinse or freshwater dip it (thus the self inflicted rear kicking). anyone got any advice for me? :-o

It is more likely the clowns are stress by tank conditions. Check salinity, temp, stray current, and ph levels first. If there are any problems you will not cure the ick. If everything checks out OK try feeding some garlic juice on flake food. You can buy jars of fresh garlic from HEB and just pour off the juice.

It's almost certain you did not introduce the ich with the algae. Fish parasites exist in almost all marine aquariums; the fact that we have closed systems just make the fish much more susceptible to getting nailed by them. I'd add a cleaner shrimp or two to your 10 gallon immediately and see if they can help the clownfish. Sometimes clowns won't go visit the shrimp, and the shrimp may be intimidated by the clowns' natural territoriality. But it's definitely worth a try.
