Sups people :D Are there any negatives of using a mirror as a background (I know many do this), other than the potential of fish seeing their reflection and bolting into the tank sides?...as if that wasn't bad enough lolol

Thanks!

i would consider mylar to be a better alternative to a mirror. less chance of having a potential problem waiting to happen. i believe that silver oxide is more lethal to corals than copper, if the mirror starts to flake, any flake has the potential to land in the sump.
mylar on the otherhand, is alot easier to work with, and is more reflective than a mirror. aquadome/pet corral sells mylar with a sticky side peelaway, its a great product, and they are the only ones in austin that carries it that i know of. use the soapy water method and a sharp razorblade to apply it.

Some fish don't like their reflection. I don't think this would be a problem in the long run but they might try to fight themselves when you first install the background.
