and I need a 70 inch plasma.... :)

While were dreaming, I think I can see a 140" Plasma across from my tank. Well then I would have to go bigger on the tank!!!

Ba, I have a 96W PC retro kit. 36" reflector W/ Ballast. No bulbs.
I'll take 80.00 Bucks. Also have a mag 24 for sale. I will be taking it out as soon as I can afford the dolphin. Take it for 125.00 & I'll get my Dolphin coming. It is less than a month old.

How big of a Stingray are You looking for? They were catching a bunch of them at Bob Hall Pier last weekend. The biggest one was about 250lbs.

BA
Thu, 15th Apr 2004, 08:04 PM

BA - there are many places that sell a select variety of sharks and rays online. As they are more delicate and need more knowledgeable/experienced handling, no one guarantees them other than the fact that they will arrive alive. You should do a search online if you are looking for something exotic. Liveaquaria.com, Marine Depot, and Premium Aquatics, and the Marine Center out of the Dallas area stocks them sometimes. Probably check the aggressive fish forum on RC to ask for peoples experiences with different companies.

Other than yourself and Kaiser, I don't know of anyone in Maast that currently has a shark. I have a feeling that the few people here in south Texas that have had them weren't as knowledgeable and/or prepared to take care of such a creature. I think sharks are really facinating animals and would love to have a shark tank someday (on my to do list! lol) so please keep us updated with how things go.

thanx for the info. captexas, i will start checking a lot of the websites, i did post a thread on RC but all the websites they gave me were way overpriced, so i'll just keeping looking. i'll be sure to post some pics once i have all my sharks and rays in their new tank.

BA
Thu, 15th Apr 2004, 10:42 PM
i think so far the best website is www.sharks-for-sale.com but they are a store out of ATlanta and they are not up and running completely yet, they amazingly have some guarantees on thier sharks and rays!!!!

BA
Thu, 15th Apr 2004, 10:44 PM

Just got back from Texas Tropical and they have a shark egg (pod) they're selling for $40. NO KAISER! :scold: Really cool...can see the little guy moving around inside the egg. They also have a banded shark that's about 10" (?) for $59. Just thought I'd throw that info in! :skeezy:

I can't remember what type of shark Tim had, but I think he had someone take it back down to the coast where it came from to get rid of it not too long ago.

Josh - It's been many years, but I went out fishing in the gulf on a charter and we ran into a school of them at our last stop for the day. As soon as you reeled one in, another line hit. We got 13 between two of us before we had to head back. They are very strong for their size. Not bad eating when cooked right either :-) Other than out in the gulf, you might be able to catch some fishing from shore as they do get in through breaks in the sand bars that run parallel to the beach.

Tim had a nurse shark in his backyard pond before. When I saw it last it was pretty big. Remember him saying he had it released at the coast.

I believe he is trying to hatch a bamboo out of an egg. I have a baby bamboo also that has been doing great since it was born about 7-8 weeks ago. It is actually pretty active during the day and has gotten to the point it will sit in my hand and let me pet it.

BA
Fri, 16th Apr 2004, 05:46 PM
the pond in his backyard is a fresh water pond, did he ever have it a sw??? or are you talking about the sand propagation rubbermaid tank that he use to use for sand?

BA
Fri, 16th Apr 2004, 05:48 PM
Yea i saw that baby banded shark at texas today, he is way too small though, i would be afraid that my epaulette, 31 inches long would harrass him too much, i would need a bit bigger one to keep him in the same tank.but i might put one in my other 125, soon to be reef tank. i think it's better to just keep sharks out of reefs though.

BA
Fri, 16th Apr 2004, 06:26 PM
Tim so you had a nurse shark? hog big did it get??? when did you keep it, and any old pics of it.

BA

BLACK TIP i catch them on the north jetti in port a. you have to take the boat across [10.00 fair] the channel. they drop you off. you must have all you gear with you because there is nothing out there. they come back every hour. drop new people off and pick up the ones that are ready to go back. i use the piggy perch. you can catch those in the rocks with a small hook and bread. by the hundeds!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kaiser
Fri, 16th Apr 2004, 07:29 PM
Dan, where do you catch those blacktips at? My kids would *love* to catch a bunch of little sharks. :D
Try Bob Hall Pier (http://www.bobhallpier.com) I've seen a lot of sharks pulled out of the water there last weekend. Remember they have to be 24" to keep and the limit is 1.

BA
Fri, 16th Apr 2004, 08:11 PM
anyone catch any other shark besides a black tip????so the shark would have to be 24 inches for me to bring back?dang, i think that's maybe too big to bring back

next time you go fishing You might want to get a look at this (http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/annual/fish/bagandsize.phtml). Then You don't end up like the 2 guys down at the pier this weekend. Game Warden gave them a ride. :o

BA
Sat, 17th Apr 2004, 08:25 PM

Too many dancing bananas :? Homer will have to step in.

Have you looked at Tubastae(sun corals) or Sponges. They require virtually no light and they are true filter feeders to boot. The sun corals will require a little attention though.
Have you looked into keeping a Leopard Shark. I had one back in the mid 90's, it was graceful the way it swam around the take all day, never seeming to take a rest. However when it grew to over 2 1/2 feet in just a couple years, It left me scrambling to get rid of him. He was one of the coolest creatures I have ever kept. I felt like the Crocodile Hunter during feeding time.

Totally missed this thread. I still need to transfer som epics to my work laptop. Shark was doing the funniest thing the other day where it literally was standing (as much a shark can) on it's head. Could not figure out what the hell it was doing but it was propped up in the sand on it's head.

I only have a bunch of PC lighting on my tank and have frogspawn, shrooms, hammers, polyps, and xenia in there to help dress it up. Have them glued in to the live rock so nothing will knock anything over

cool hope u get the pics up soon, Troy i would love to have a leapord, but a 375 is not where as big as that sharks needs for full life, i would ahte to see him grow and then have to get rid of him.
