I am researching the idea of using my new 55 gal perfecto tank as a clam tank. I dont plan on even starting until I have the appropriate lighting and am interested in everyones input. I have drilled the bottom for an overflow and cant decide on filtration either. I am thinking a DIY sump or HOT 350.

The clams I want to put in there my current Squamosa and Maxima ( both are less than 3" ) and add some Croceas. Squamosas are my favorite so far so I may get several more.

I have seen alot of yalls galleries and want to know what works and what doesnt. I am especially interested in your opinion, jimnorris.

Couldn't you use a clam tank as fuge? I think they do that in coral farms to reduce nitrates. I think that Calfo talks about it in his book.

that would be a good idea. have a 100 clam fuge hooked up to the main tank. you would have more money in the fuge than in the main tank. thats wild

I think they generally set them up in a raceway so that they get high water flow.

Low water flow's the best!! I've seen and read about people using hippopus hippopus clams for a fuge, they are among the cheapest and the hardiest. Can't wait to get my tank rolling!!

Is there a supplier for baby clams to stock such a grow out tank?

OK. Time to decide on lighting. I have read that 20k XM bulbs dont require actinic support so I have decided to go with 2 250 watt reefstars with 20k bulbs. Does anybody have something similiar on a 55gal? Does anybody have any advice against this decision? Or is this a good way to go for my future clam tank?

If 20k's will work then I would like to use Reefstar fixtures. Any cheaper alternatives would be nice, so key in if you have any ideas.
