In the past two weeks my brittle has managed to eat a two inch mandarin and a three inch lawnmower blenny. And the starfish used to be the only good character in my tank.

The weird thing is that for the first year and a half I had him, I hardly ever spot fed it. The past half year, however, I started feeding him about once a week. And now he goes and does this.

As I stare at his fat belly, I'm beginning to wonder what boiled starfish tastes like...

Maybe the fish died and the brittle just cleaned them up? I once suspected a brittle of the same but discovered I had other issues that were causing the fish to die.
Just an idea, not doubting your observations or anything.

i have a friend that came home one evening and saw his brittle kill a yellow tang. he had to go in the tank and take the yellow tang away from him thinking it might live but to much damage had been done. i will never buy one now!!!!!!

It's a green brittle star.

TB-

I thought about that first, but the day before the blenny and mandarin were up and about eating and looked fine. I also have one chromis who's been doing good.

I figured that the brittle was able to get to the blenny and mandarin because they are both very sedate at night. The chromis is a spaz and is very fast so it'd be almost impossible for the brittle to get to him.

Also if the two would have died and then the brittle would have had his chance, I figure I would have at least seen remanants of the fish in the morning. I have a reef lobster and plenty of crabs that would have liked a piece or two of the fish as well.

I want to get rid of the brittle, but I've had him since just about day one in the tank (including a crash and two moves). Guess I'll just have to stick to faster fish.

mmmm...mandarin
