In my 175 bowfront, i have noticed some dead spots. I was considering a Oceans Motions but cost isnt possible right now. This is my current flow situation:
Return pump Little Giant 3 MDQX, probably 1000 GPH.
Mag 18 on a closed loop through a SQWD which sucks, taking SQWD off soon
2 Maxijet 1200's
I was considering adding another 3 Maxijet 1200's, but my questsion is this. Is it worth the $110 for a wavamaker to control 3 of them? Or is the constant flow ok? I am keeping several softies and possibly some SPS in the future. I know that random flow is beneficial, but I have read that many successfull reefkeepers do not have varied flow.

The wavemaker for the maxijets is definitely worth it IMO. And MJ1200 put out a lot for a little inexpensive powerhead. And you can not beat the deal at AW for them either (6 for $95). That price is right!!! The MJ only pulls 20 amps, so you can gang 3 up on a digital timer and turn them on and off several times each day. 2 timers, opposite times.
Taking the SQWD off the Mag18 will help you a lot. Then you can put the Mag18 on a timer. Run it 4 hours, then 2 off if you want to closely simulate the oceans rotary currents. Well, as close as you can with one pump anyway. A Mag18 with a Y split, two lines coming back in will help your flow situation immensely. These SQWDs are better in smaller tanks or with several SQWDs if you have a large tank like a 175 bow with lots of rock. They don't stay on long enough per side to do anything much if there is just one in a 175. Maybe get a little local area turbulence but thats about it.

i have the mag split coming over the back and out 2 loc lines with a total of 4 outputs. I think i made a deal on a wavemaker.

if it ran 20 amps you would a breaker for each power head. WOW I'D GET RID OF THOSE FAST. LOL J/K
