Look what I picked up for a low price in Austin! A 6 in Paracanthurus hepatus (Regal Tang) He does not hide, he eats pellets, and he's about an inch and a half thick. This is the first one I've ever seen that doesn't lay down or hide.

Some one brought him, a Purple and yellow tank in. All very large.

Aquatek. They said someone brought them in. Didn't give me the reason. All were in great shape. I hated breaking them up. But I don't have the room.

What's the best food for these guys? My book says meaty foods. So far he eats anything that hits the water.

Anything but be sure it gets it's greens. They love grape caulerpa.

Mine eats all kinds of frozen foods. It never really ate any of the seaweed I put in the tank until I added a chocolate tang and then it liked it.

I've only had good luck with grape caulerpa and romain lettuce.

Mines a pig, eats everything. But like Tim said make sure to get it some greens. Either caulerpa or nori. I prefer to nori over romain lettuce.

How much do I need to feed this guy? He's 6in long and 1.5 in wide.

LOL, at that size you should feed him often. My little guy eats like a pig. I feed my fish a mixture of frozen foods once a day and provide seaweed/algae for the tangs once a week or more depending on how fast all the critters eat it.

I have three tangs together, my regal is about the same size as yours. I leave a sheet of nori about every other day for all three to eat. These guys are very active and need plenty of food.

Mine loved zoanthids and scolymia until I finally caught it using a tiny hook and 2lb test line. Now he lives in a FO tank eating lots of nori.

I call them garbage cans of the sea. They eat anything and are kind of aggressive. Even eat the fins of a swimming copperband. All kinds of simple algaes and macros, all kinds of frozen foods, even daphnia, flake food and bubble algae. They knock any bubble algae they find loose, play with them and then swallow the bubbles whole. They even like mussels on the half shell. They don't mess with polyps, softies or corals at all.

Oliver, sounds like your tang is related to my bicolored blenny. You can have my bicolor, he'd go well with your tang.
