I just got this fish from some friends who came from South Padre Island. If any of you know what type it is and what it might eat I would greatly appreciate it.

It's some type of frog fish or sargasum toad fish??? And it eats anything!! Try frozen shrimp!! Mine used to chase the shrimp on feeding probe around the tank! BTW it will eat anything that is smaller than it, I've seen one at a LFS I used to work take down a 6in. wrasse, and it was only a 4in. sargassum, he died the next day :(

Frog fish. Try ghost shrimp since it is so small. Also rosey reds or small mollies.

Thanks for the info. I will search for more info on frog fish or sargasum toad fishes. I have it in my refugium and there are no other fish there so it is safe for me to keep it.

You could try silver sides and place it on a clear acrylic skewer. Just wave it in front of him.

Fabian, I once caught a few of those offshore with a cast net on a weed line. We put three in a 5 gallon bucket. When we got back to the dock, there was only one really fat one left! Don't even think about putting that little devil in your main tank!

If you want to read up on them, Scott Michael's book "Reef Fishes vol 1" has a very good chapter on them.
