Well both my clowns have been sucked down my overflows. Anyone know where to get some kind of guard. They are just 90degree pvc. Anyways what kind of clowns should i get. Not false percs like before. Something different, not many other ppl have.

Try stuffing Bio Balls in the PVC, most LFS have them laying around and will give a couple. If not let me know I have an extra one.

You don't see many Flame/Fire Clowns (Amphilprion ephippium) around. They are close to the shape of a Tomato. Darker Orange, with a large black spot on the body. Also look for a Black Saddleback

Skunk clowns maybe? They are supposedly a bit delicate compared to the percula or clarkii complex.

Go to the reefcentral clown forum there are some great threads on rare clowns and not so rare clowns. One of these days I am going to set up a 58 gallon or so with a pair of wideband clowns and a sebae anemone - only thing besides being rare is these fish need a chiller coming from subtropical waters off south australia.

You could also take a look at a copy of the book 'Clownfishes' by Joyce Wilkerson which has information on most species that make it into the hobby.

Ross,

A small piece of filter media like is used in a wet/dry and a rubber band should be enough to protect against fish or other critters going through your overflow. You can buy the filter media at most LFS by the foot. Good stuff to have around.

You can always do what I had to with my preskimmer for my bakpak. I used a section of a wide tooth comb and glued it to the inlet section. Stupid chromis kept getting into the box and I'd have to release him.

In my opinion black and white perculas are the coolest, but their price reflects it too. I had a pair for a long time and sold it to aquarium sales thinking that orange was cooler than black...what a fool i was, beginners mistake. I tried until they closed to get another pair. Seriously though these are really neat but just make sure you get the real thing. there are some other black and white clowns with yellow...saddlebacks I think, but these are not what I'm talking about. You can get captive raised ones from ORA just ask AW to order some for you.

I think saddlebacks are cool looking. Here's a good link for clownfish:

Sorry to disagree, but stuffing bio-balls or filter flow into your overflow pipe is a very bad idea. You might as well just get a bucket, siphon water from your tank, and dump it on the floor! You need a screen guard that will keep animals from getting in but not restrict flow or get clogged by snails/crap/whatever. Try to make something out of "eggcrate" (light diffuser) or get those big bulkhead screens; they look a little like cones.
