View Full Version : Clams direct???

Sat, 6th Mar 2004, 03:48 PM
I'm thinking about setting up a group order for clams direct. I iron'd out all the details with barry yesterday and this is what I came up with. For starters, Barry now has about 180 clams for sale at this moment. The store will re-open sunday the 14th. We(MAAST) will be the only people who will know the exact hour that the store will open. This is gonna be very helpfull because the last time that barry restocked his store he sold about 170 of his 200 clams with in the first two hours!! The only bad side is that whoever wants in needs to get on clamsdirect and pickout your clam(s) and call me with the clam # asap. I think the store is gonn a open about 8 in the morning!! This will make it tough, but we get a great oppertunity to cherry pick our clams. As soon as you call me I'll add it to my shopping cart and it will be removed from the gallery and insure that your gonna get the exact clam that you want. I will pay for all the clams up front, but I will need the money the day before I call barry to ship them to me. This will either be monday or tuesday depending on what we all figure, this will be overnight so it will be at my apartment by 10:30a.m. Now for shipping, this is tricky O.K. If we order 4 or under its gonna be around $36 total shipping. over 15 clams its gonna be around $65. So it will be between $36 and $80 total!! We will divide that equally, so if you buy two clams your gonna pay shipping for two clams. I'm getting two no matter what . Each and every clam will be shipped witha tag that will I.D. the clam(ex. M-46 for a max) so there will be no confusion, barry will also be writting the name of the person on the inside of one of the 3 bags to help things go smoothly when you pick them up. I'm gonna set up a tank with a heater to float the clams until you can pick them up, I might even be willing to take them to you if you live here in san antonio and for any reason you absolutly can't make it to pick up your clam. If yor interested or you have any questions you can post here, I need to know if this is gonna go down because I need to call Barry and give him a heads up on saturday the 13th night so we can go shopping on sunday morning. If we can get a few of these group orders going, I will aventually get an instant 10% discount on all clams and dry goods. thank you and lets make this happen!! JJ

P.S. sorry about the the short novel, just wanted to give out as much info. as possible!!

Read his post. It says that the store will be closed 'til the 14th, however we will be given a time as to when the store reopens so we can pick thru the best selection.

Sorry about not getting to the posts, but I had to go outta town and clear up a few things!! I will give the exact time that the store opend on sat. the 13th as soon as I find out from Barry. Scuba steveo I ccan send you a P.M. the night before, or I can call you a little before the store opens to make sure your up :) I can purchase clams for anyone up until the day I ask them to ship. So if you pickout your clam on sunday and we decide to ship by tuesday morning, you can still be able to pickout your clams until what ever time I call Barry??? Just keep in mind that I need the money for your selected clam(s) on the day before I decide to ship, cause' thats the day they are gonna withdraw the money from my account so I need it in there!!

New info:
I'm gonna be ordering all week now. For any one interested you can pickout your clams till thurday night or friday morning before 8a.m. I will now be recieving the order on saturday the 20th @ 10:30a.m. for an additional $10, not a bad price to pay for sat. shipping vs. tuesday shipping!!! Just set up a pay-pal account to help things out. I'm still gonna need payment for the clams by thursday or friday morning, depending on the amount of clams we get to gether, if the orders not really expensive (under $400) I might just pay for all and have you payme when you pick up the clam(s). Any questions??? P.S. just a reminder if you buy a green clam and he looks blue in your tank, remember that all the clam photos are from above and diff. lighting spectrums will also change the colour! All photos are under a 250W 10K HQI. thanks again. JJ

March's meeting is going to be on a Monday? In the forum letter by Barry he says ,on individual orders, not this group thing, that when you order your clam you have to specify what box you want. Since we can't get in right now to check out the do's and don'ts can you tell me what to expect for future orders? How will we know which box to choose?

Yea, I was right. For once. Sunday March 21, 2004. We can't come due to our daughter and son-in-law producing a car show that day. I volunteered to help them. I believe it is going to be a big production. A lot of planning goes into one of these shows.

malofish

Actually I'm gonna take care of the "box" for shipping. I will place the order and pay for the exact box on the day of the order. This will make things easier for everyone!! You just select your clam and either call me or P.M. and I'll put on my list. Then just pay for it and pick it up on sat. Pretty easy!!

I might want in, but I have a feeling that even in this group I would probably pick the same clam that another person wants!

Site says the store is supposed to open today, March 14th. Just doesn't say what time! lol

Chris, this is the 13th I think. Malofish posted earlier that they were going to open the 13th (instead of 14th) and would give us more specific time when notified. I keep checking site to see if open just in case,

According to Barry's forums just putting the Clams in the basket will not hold them. They now go to the first with $$ input. So how are these being "saved" for us?

captexas
Sun, 14th Mar 2004, 10:43 AM
I was kind of curious about that myself. If someone outside of Maast picks a clam and pays for it and someone from here also picks it and it's put in the basket, who gets the clam?

According to Barry's write up it is the one that pays.

Got my clams in Tuesday afternoon. Really impressed with the packaging and the fact that Barry called me later that day to check on things. Unfortunately, after acclimating them and finally putting them in my tank, I found that the most beautiful one, the Pohnpei maxima, was dead. Really bummed out as it was a very pretty clam and Barry said I was the only one out of like 40 orders that had a problem. Not sure what will happen now.

What are the procedures on something like this? After the day I had yesterday, I don't need any more disappointments. Well, the tests should be done, heard timer go off. We are SO sorry that your clam did not make the trip. Sometimes the stress is just to much. From what you described to me, I think it spawned in the bag. :( Send you a letter this morning.

We shipped out 36 clams yesterday and 13 were pohnpe's and we lost one. One is too many to loss. :( We have had these since March 1, in our tanks and lost none. :

I have had a busy day today. Hubby left instructions to start dinner about 3 p.m. I was so busy looking at our clams that I set all the timers in the kitchen to be sure I didn't forget to start dinner. The timers went off one by one, I pulled myself away from the 'clam tank'. The phone rang and it was Barry. He called just to see how things were. That is a first for me. While on the phone with Barry UPS showed up with our DT's shipment. Barry has sold me on the quality of service, the packing, timely shipment, and of course the high quality of clams. And yes, I did get the diner started, mowed the front lawn, cleaned up and still had time to watch the clams before Hubby came home.
