I just installed an 18-inch CPR Aquafuge on my 37-gallon reef. I would like to change the Rio pump out to a larger one so that I can get more flow through the refugium. I am however unfamiliar with Rio pumps. What is the largest Rio that will fit on to the CPR Aquafuge? Is this too large? What size Rio do you recommend? Thank you very much for your help.

What size rio is currently on the fuge, personally I don't have a lot of flow going thru a fuge. I have 30gal fuge with a mj1200 running it.

Funny, I just installed the CPR aquafuge (24") on my 37 as well.
To get it to fit I had to angle the intake and output. I may change those later by making pvc versions of my own.

Please let me know if/when you find an alternative, I too would like to get rid of the rio. the flow is fine though btw, I wouldn't go too much more. I just dont like rio pumps.

Brett, I sure you could sub it with a comparable model MJ.

If it's using the rio 600, I believe the rio 800 is the same demensions just pumps a little more. Not sure if any others will fit into the design since I'm not familiar with the aqua-fuge.

I've heard bad things about Rio's. I heard they can bust & Leak in to tank More so than others. Just what I heard. Dealer in Austin said had to many issues with rios. Sorry just what I heard. Hagen pumps seem to pump well have one on Ca Reac. Seems to do well. Will be changing this though Will plumb through one of the return pumps.

Rio users have reported stray electrical current and shocks in their tank due to the seal around the electric wire leaking.
Seems to depend on handling habits by the users overall and also when it was made. I have one that has been in use for a while (as in years) without issues at all. Its still a good pump, still in use. Don't sling it around by the cord. Perhaps that makes a difference?

 rio pumps  olord... help me... i'm having nightmares again! :collapses into the fetal position:
i have had multiple "tingles" when i ran a few of the larger pumps in my tank. i don't thing that there is too much of an issue with the smaller pumps, but the big pumps a health hazard for sure. ehiem also has a few pumps that would be a better choice over the rio, imo.

Actually all the rio's I've ever owned (and there's been quite a few) have never failed me. I've heard the problems were with the bigger pumps, like the 2100 on up. I had a couple 1100's I abused the heck out of and they ran until I ran 'em into the ground. I always thought they were powerfull little pumps for the buck. :D

I love ehiems and maxijets though - for powerheads maxi's are my pump of choice.
