I am sick, After two tries to setup 240. Am I being to picky? Tank came delivered twice with scratches. Has anyone ever bought a new tank with fine scratches? What did you do? After this experience I have opted to go with Oceanic 240. Any scratched Oceanic Tanks?
Month waiting to setup this tank. I am at a loss of words :wtf: Aquatrend 240

Wow, that definately stinks. In my opinion, it is your money so you should get what you want. As it is glass it is not like you can just fix the scratches. Where are the scratches at?

I have bought a smaller tank with small scratches. It wasn't to big of a problem since they were on the lower part of the tank that was covered by sand. But as Chris said, its your money and you should spend it as you want.

Again???? Man, that friggin blows! If I remember correctly, this is an acrylic tank, right? I dunno, if youre this bummed out now, how you gonna feel when the tanks set up and you go to clean the front panel, and,,,, oops! sand in my mag-float!.... Glass all the way for me..

If it's aquatrends, it's not an acrylic tank. There are some issues with that place; actually, if you can go and talk directly with the guy who makes the tanks, he's pretty sharp and does quality work. The problem is in the quantity of stuff he has to put out. You should definitely get exactly what you want with a tank that size and cost.

I don't think so, you get what you pay for!!! I don't think you should have to settle for their mistake. IMO if you settle you'll allways look at that scratch and regreat taking it . Been there done that!!!

Wish it were that simple. Its Glass, the scratches are right @ eye level towards the top. In middle & towards both ends. I sent both tanks back, they said wont make another. Not that I am willing anymore. I have ordered a Oceanic.
I did'nt think I should settle for this. I am buying glass it should be like glass clear scratch free. I asked if inspected glass. How they recieve there raw glass. Not wrapped or protected in anyway. He told me they clean the glass with sometype of belt system. The glass sits on a rubber mat that takes it through a planer that has waterbrushes in it to cleanse it very thouroughly. Surely this is where there coming from. Thats sad, it was all there.

Aquatrend , They might the one you see is worse than the second one. I had them do the second with black trim. The scratches are like claw marks of a cat spaced close with banana like hook to them. The oak had some deep on front face. Had to look close, just I see already the algae growing in them & cant get it out. :scold:
I went to lps & picked a Oceanic apart I found nothing. Sucks its about 3/4 price more. Outta pitty for me getting at 10% over cost. Thats great considrering the price I first got on same tank before all this. Spent lots with them on other stuff for this project. I just cant see it @ any price. it would bug the ---- outta me!!!

I agree, I have a tank that has small sratches and the only way to get algae out is to use a razor blade every so often. Never pay for something new that is damaged when you recieve it.

Yeah, Aquatrend is a tank manufacturing co. here in san antonio. They make alot of tanks and stands for LFS around town. If anyone has seen Jim Norris tank it's an aquatrend. They aren't open to the public though.

Well everyone it has been a rough day. Feeling sick, been on the phone allday. Oceanic is were I thought I was going, however they are sticklers on the point about there stand. They will not give any warranty what so ever for there tank if not on Oceanic Stand. This Bites. Well they also want An additonal 750.00 for the same tank I had.
I must say I never thought buying a fish tank could be so nerve racking. After all this & noone willing to work with me, I have decided to not be so critical. I have called Toy @ Aquatrend, He is willing to still work with me. The second tank I got I must say was not as bad as the first. I think I can live with the little things I saw. How many of you try to pick your tank apart? I did in this case. I think I need to stand back & visualize the tank & not look at the glass so hard. As Its made to be looked through & not at. I must say the scratches I noticed on the second tank. I probably would of never seen had I not seen the other tank.
I am going to pickup the second tank here in the next couple of days. I have to work that out with my schedule. By the way if anyone wants to do an Inwall project & want Oceanic they do have a stand available. There not the nicest folks to work with. Theres only 2 people to talk to about custom work. Not inexpensive either.
I sure hope I'm not making a mistake here. There really minor. & If i am its worth the extra 1000$$$$
that can go towards livestock. Thanks for eveyones input here, it was greatly appreciated. Louie ( Toy) @ Aquatrend has been real nice about the matter. I personnally might of handled it differently. As my first choice was to go elsewhere. I think the outcome will be good.
Has anyone talked to there Homeowners Ins? I'm curious to know if there is any policies available to us. As with State Farm , there is exclusions when it comes to fish tanks. I need to be in good hands ( AllState ) Like Jim. :-D
Dont get me wrong I agree with everyone that has posted. Man I cant bite that bullet. Not for the little things must of us would not see!!!!!
Wish me LUCK

If they are tiny scratches don't sweat it. After you add water you won't see them anymore and they clean fairly easy with a mag float. Deeper scratches are harder to keep clean. You will probably be the only one that ever sees them.

Maybe there's a way to get rid of the scratches before you put water in the tank. I have no idea, but it's worth a look.
This story really sums up aquatrends, IMO. When I got my first tank from them, they drilled it the wrong place, TWICE! At first, Toy was very unreasonable, and his first inclination in any dispute is to deny, cover his butt, etc... But, they did fix it, and after you talk in person to Toy he's much more likely to work with you. The tanks are okay, IMO, but not as good as Oceanic. According to a pretty knowledgable person, the difference in workmanship is more important as the tank gets larger.

Matt after really looking at the tank, I really dont see them unless looking for them. Very minor. After all the crap I went through with Oceanic. I dont think I want there tank. They were so unreasonable. Just to get a call back was tough. I can be very persistant & was, it just was a pain. I picked up the tank today. It has water in it. Everything looks great. No leaks. Most importantly!
Also have somekind of warranty, Oceanic nothing!!!!!!!!!
I just thought in buying glass it should be flawless. June meeting everyone can look @ tank. I wont point them out. Just see if anyone sees them. Look through the glass I say not at it. It was a tough call. Oceanic I would of spent close to 1200$$ More. Thats nuts. Inwall Stand they never have talked about until now. If I would of know before I built stand I might of went that way. To much to do after the fact. Jim turned me on to Aquatrend. He has a nice setup that I admire. If it does'nt leak I hav'nt made a mistake, & for the money I can be happy.
Oceanic is the top of the line IMO. In this I have contacted my homeowners Ins. There is so many exclusions to fishtanks, I think we are all taking a gamble. I'd rather gamble on Oceanic however underdogs do Succeed as well. Oceanic has not always been so big they started somewhere too. Do you know of any Insurance that does not exclude fishtanks from there policies. It is personal property. They told me the structural items would be covered. Just not the tank. If it is Vandalized, Robbed, or in natural disaster it would all be covererd. Oceanic told me they might help in other situations however not bound by. It took those guys 2 Days to call me back, Then I missed the call No Message Nothing. Poor Service in the customs dept. Talked to them very little & Could'nt make any sense of it.
Wish me Luck & I'll getoff the soapbox already.
Thanks for all the input it's greatly appreciated.
One more thing, How long would you leave the test water in tank before proceeding?

I had a customer that had scratched up their tank so I called oceanic about how she might remove them. They told me they use a powder (aluminum oxide I think it was?) to buff out fine scratches, it should be available from glass supply companies according to them.
