I have a 72 gal. Oceanic bowfront that is less than 1 year old. The other day I noticed some salt forming on the glass at the top of the black plastic strip at the base of the tank. I figured that some water had run down the front of the tank while I was doing a water change, and had seeped in between the plastic and the glass, so I just cleaned it off. Yesterday I noticed some more salt at the same spot. The tank is level, and I have a piece of foam rubber padding between the tank and stand. I have not noticed any moisture coming from under the tank (yet, anway!). I am thinking that there is a very slow leak causing the water to wick up the glass at this spot and cause the salt creep. I know the tank is under warranty, but I hate like hell to have to tear it down to replace or repair it. Any thoughts?

I think somebody else on the forum posted about a leaky 72 bowfront about a week ago. I don't have any information for you but you could search the forum and see what the discussion was about. Good luck.

I owuld get it replaced, even if it is a PITA! A small leak could become something much worse. Do not take the chance!

I agree. Had a small leak become a puddle, turn into a river and a lake. Even a 10 gallon tank is a pain, can't imagine a 72 gallon river. The beauty of marine micro organizms and salt water is that the leak seems never to plug, it just gets worse and glue lets go. They'll plug pumps, strainers and pipes but somehow only manage to make leaks worse 99% of the time.

Dont tell oceanic that you have a pad between the tank and stand - I believe that it will void your warranty.

a small water leak is like a small gas leak, not so bad at first but than B00M!!!. i would get that tank replaced with a 90 or something eles than a 72. JMO

Just talked to the local fish store that sold it to me. "Just drain it and bring it back", was the repsonse. I told them that I read that there were a string of bad ones made recently, and would they be able to tell me if this one fell in the bad lot, based on the serial number. "No." Any suggestions on how to find out? "Call Oceanic." Got a number for them? "Nope". Nothing like good customer service!!!!!

Skully, I got worried after reading the post last week about the leaky bowfronts, so I emailed oceanic and they told me that they can tell by the serial number on the inside of your top molding if its one of the bad ones they produced in 2002. Mine turned out to broduced in sept. 2001, and its been running all that time without a leak, so I think I'm good (hopefully)
here is the number they told me to call: 1-800-554-6229

Being the impatient type, I know it sucks waiting for something to arrive. But it could be the wholesaler's fault for the delay, not the store.
