I placed an order with Inland Aquatics in early January for some various live items. They were initially very conscientious, holding the order for quite a while because they were worried about the animals not dealing with the cold weather well.

Today I finally recieved the order. They included a fish that I had cancelled and the prices had gone up dramatically since I placed the order over a month ago. I was not informed of this price increase and was a little peeved. I called them and let them know that I was angry at the price increases and the inclusion of a fish that I had cancelled. I also told them that the fish were currently alive but did not at all look good. They were breathing very quickly, had shallow colors, and just over all looked horrible. As soon as I opened the $89 Imperator Angel's container (the fish I had cancelled) I could tell that there was something very wrong with her (she had a black lining so it was hard to see her in the bag). I e-mailed them to let them know that I had never smelled such foul water in a shipment, other than with dead fish, and that she looked absolutely horrible. I went ahead and acclimated her and released her into the tank, unsure whether she was even alive, but trying to give her every chance. She is very definitely dead!

So, I recieved a fish I cancelled, they raised the prices and were only willing to give me a partial refund, and the fish I did not want was dead within 10 minutes of getting to my house, prior to being put into my tank.

I ordered from these folks becasue they are known to supply captive bred and tank rasied animals and I was trying to be nice to our oceans.

I have been vey unhappy with the service and the quality of the animals that I recieved from Inland and I will deifitely not be ordering from these people again.....

Wow, sorry to hear about your experience Misti. I think the longer a company sits on an order, the more likely it will be that it gets messed up in one way or the other.

Ahh man Misti...sorry to hear about that. What a horrible experience all around. Thanks for the heads up tho....I'll remember it IF I ever deal with them.

I too was part of that order and was not particularly impressed with what I got. They forgot to include one whole part of my order and sent me a bunch of those six legged starfish that I hear are so bad. Overall, I agree, I will not be ordering from there again.

Most of my stuff from this order is dead. When I got home and checked the salinity of the water, it was 1.030. Although I acclimated it over a few hours, i don't think the snails lasted the night. Maybe the worms are more able to withstand changes in salinity.

We REALLY need a cooperative live sand/detrivore arrangement. I know aquatic warehouse is talking about setting up a live sand system; hopefully they can stock it heavily with worms and various sand animals, and keep the water clean and well fed. Tim's live rock/sand pond is about the best source around; we need something in San Antonio. The ironic thing is that these animals are very easy to propogate; the only thing would be to keep adding a diversity of species. Between this disappointing order and the high price of IPSF stuff, I know we can do much better locally.

I will have some room to do it on a limited scale. I have a yard big enough to put a greenhouse setup like Tim's, but I have spent all the $ I am going to spend right now.

Just a thought ... a store front that reads MAAST. It doesnt have to be a profitable deal because Maast is a non profit organization. It would ethically make sure you get what you want. Not to mention a great tax write off. :D

Isn't Inland Aquatics the place that brags about never changing the water because they use algae scrubbers and thats all they use to clean up the water? Its all recycled water?

I think this is a really good idea. We just need a big system and need to feed it. A green house setting is really great. Make sure that we do not add anything that may have flatworm or aptasian in it, and dont add sand bed predator in it. we can exchange sand often with members this will keep it well diverse while helping to keep our tank doing well also.

I've got room in my garage if we wanted to keep it indoors. We could probably get one of those big water bins from Tractor Supply to use. I don't think it would need anything for lighting and wouldn't need much for water circulation. Just have to feed it every once in awhile. Be nice to have some light and grow macro in it as well. Just a thought.
