I don't really understand your post, however, the unit appears to be brand new.

I emailed the seller trying to find out what type and brand those ballasts are. I'll post when he returns my questions.

Looks like the same type of system below and the guy just took off the ballast and added the additional components to make it work for an aquarium. He probably gets them as surplus from work and just making a little money on the side. Not a bad system but most likely just a standard coil ballast in a casing.

Either it works or it doesn't. For $90, I'd say this system is an excellent deal. Hell, at worst youd have a brand new back up bulb, a socket, and a pretty decent reflector right? Thats easily worth 90 bucks.

Even if the bulb isn't worth crap, it would still make a good fuge light.

Yup..basically you really can't loose unless the box has been run over by a car.

Didn't mean that it wasn't a good deal just what type of ballast it was becasue someone asked about HQI. This would be a great system to get as a starter. I've heard bad things about that brand bulb but for $90 bulb included you can't beat it, just replace the bulb with better when ready. Lots of places to get bulbs on line at great prices.

Alex,
Yep, the M58/M59s will run the XM. It is a standard probe ballast.

When you say some...can you be a little more detailed please. I'm buying a 58 with center overflow 36" x 18"x 21". I'm upgrading from my first tank, a 29 hex with a retro PC.

Thanks in advance
