Anyone know what this one is? It was on the rock with the polyps but was all white. After about a week or two, it got its color back and now looks like this.

Very very hard to tell at this point, heck, that could be a regular Acro. it could be an encrusting coral, but doesnt have to be...

Chad, you said it had white polyps out briefly? Just by looking at it I would say Blue Ridge coral ( Heliopora species). Look at the polyps next time you are out and see if they have 8 fronds - blue ridge is a 'hard' octocoral and kind of an oddball.

Also you can chip a small part off to look at the skeleton - if it's Heliopora it will be a dark cobalt blue color.

thought I responded to this yesterday....guess not

Mike, The polyps I was refering to were actaully the zoo's, which is actually the reason I got the rock. The coral was completely white when I got it, although you could still see those distinctive white dots on it. Im not sure if the white dots are the corals polyps or part of the skeleton, but the dont retract or anything at night. Also, if you look at it across the surface, it looks a little fuzzy, but there is nothing large enought to focus on that resembles a polyp.(not sure if that makes sense). I'll try researching the blue ridge coral a little to see if it resemble it...cs
