Need a little help ...

Here is my situation .. I have no sump and just sold my CPR Bak-Pak which I used to run a little carbon (in a micron bag) and to house my heater (didn't like it hanging in the tank).

In lieu of it, I bought a Lifereef skimmer (the hang-on model) and there is no way for me to use it like I did the CPR to run carbon and house the heater and all, which brings me to my question.

Do any of you have any reccomendations as to what I can do to run some carbon, etc. without adding a sump. Thought of a Magnum filter. Any other suggestions????

A magnum would work well as would an emperor (but you have to hang it off the back). If you are going to run a magnum though, you might as well run a small sump. At least you could get some space for the heaters as well.

It would be nice to add a sump, but the expense would be too much right now. It would entail lots of plumbing, buying a sump and return pump. $500 minimum that I don't have. I agree though. It would be nice.

Talk to alexwolf, last I heard he a pretty nice sump/skimmer combo for sale at a good price??? worth a try!

I personally like the TetraTec HOB filters. You can get the integrated heater, add carbon bags when needed, and I have macro growing crazy in mine (accident that worked out well).

You can get refillable basket/cartridge for certain Marineland powerfilter. If you're using a canister filter, you can buy external heater to hook into the canister filter (about $50.)

I agree rubbermaid bin is the way to go. Then all you need is an overflow and $70.00 return pump. You can put your heater inside your sump.

Yup...

Even though it's really not designed for this ues, I use an Aquaclear 901 powerhead. It's close to 1000 GPH and works great. Comes with a large hanger to hang it over the side of the sump.
