My 72G Bow front popped a leak over night. What's the best thing to do with the livestock and live rock. I've got my leathers and sps in my son's Nano Tank. Some of the live rock and fish in my mix tank with a pump and heater.

Help!

If I need space I'll let you know. I pulled the sump out and put my largest live rock in it with the pump. I put the Shrimp, Chromis, firefish and Kohl's tank in the sump. I have the BTA and Clown, LPS and GSP in my mix tank with the rest of the live rock. Do I need to worry about a mini-cycle?

Also, anyone else have this happen to a 72G bow from Oceanic. I've read threads on Reef Central about these things being possible leakers! Who's insurance will cover the damage to the house and death of the animals?

Thanks for the help.

There should have been a warranty card with the tank, maybe on a yellow piece of paper. I think you have to call the # on there and speak with Oceanic about it. Pretty sure it is a yellow piece of paper that came with the tank that has all of the info on it. I believe Oceanic has one of the better warranties out there. You can always call the store where you bought it and find out what they suggest. Be sure to fond your receipt.

Talk to the store where you bought it from ASAP so they can get a replacement for you. Keep your stand as dry as possible so it doesn't puff. If you're weary about your BF, then now is the time to post the replacement tank for sale, and go buy a regular tank.

Stephen, Now you got me worried about my 72G bowfront. Where exactly is it leaking from, and how bad is the leak?

If I can't get a loaner tank going today I might take you up for space for my Light Needy stuff.

Thanks,

the 72 gallon bows are notorious for leaks i bought my mom one and it started to leak. oceanic has had around 150 of these returned . i know of stores in houston who have 30-40 returns, there was a problem with teh silicone. oceanci replaced it with a 90 the 72 are the only ones that they hvave had problems with i have a 175 with no problems and my moms 90 is fine the only ones that you ever hear of leeking are the 72.

I don't understand why the 72s only are the ones prone to leaks since all are made by oceanic and all are bowfronts. Did they just go stingy on the glue on the 72's?

Oceanic has a 3 or 5yr manufacturers warranty the label with the info should be between the glass and the trim usually near the top.

yes the people making the 72 screwed up and they messed up on almost 100 percent of the 72. i have talked to 7 diffrent fishstores and all of them have had returns on 72 only the glue was pealing away for some reason . like i said if you want a 90 itis the same footprint as the 70 just taller they should upgrade you for free just talk to oceanic and complaine they made good on mine

I bought mine used about 4-5months ago, I have to ask the original owner for the exact date of purchase or try to locate the barcode. I checked out the oceanic site and their standard warenty is only 90 days. You have to purchase the extended waranty to get the 5 year coverage:

rooster, do you know what time period was that they made the bad tanks?

If they give you a hard time with the warranty take it to the store where purchased and they can work it out with oceanic as they did mine out of the warranty period. Wasnt a bow front.

oceanic will still warranty the product even if it was not registered.

There should be sticker on your tank, stating the manufature month and year.

Took the tank back to the LFS, They are bringing a 120Gal Loaner tonight. Oceanic called and they are taking care of the damage to the house and will replace the tank. We ordered an Oceanic 120Gal RR (I will have to pay some of the difference). If I don't get the loaner tank going I might take everyone up on some space in their tank.

My bad, the 5 year warrenty automatically applies if you buy the oceanic stand with the tank. I talked to the previous owner and he bought it around Oct 2002. I guess thats long enough to have sprung a leak it it was defective. I'll try to locate the serial number and contact oceanic to make sure its not one of the defective ones.

Sorry to hear about that Stephen. If there is anything you ened me to hold for you short term I have lots of tanks around the house.

This is why I will not have a bowfront again!

Their site states that IF you have an Oceanic stand, then the warranty would be extended to five years, I don't see where it says you can buy the warranty

Ok, Got the loaner tank last night about 11. I've filled it about 50%, working on hanging one of my MH's over it. As soon as the temp gets up to 77-78 I'll put the live rock in. Everything is still alive in the trash can and sump. Should I put the sand in the loaner tank? I'll have my Replacement tank in 2 weeks. The sand has been in a 5 Gallon bucket with about an 1" of water on it. I've got 90% of my live rock in the sump and trash can, and the other in bucket of water. Should I have any issues when I put the livestock back in? And If I don't put the sand in will it be ok to use in the new tank?

Can't you just drive down to the wholesaler in SA to pick up the replacement tank ASAP (if they have it in stock?)

Oceanic will only give me credit on the 72Bow to the dealer that I purchased it from. I decided to move up to a 120Gal RR, which dealer did not have. The dist should have it delivered by next friday. They were not sure on the Color, Overflow cong and a couple of other issues. The dealer did offer me a 92Gal Tank as an even swap. It was a corner tank, our room doesn't have any corners that can be used.

TexasState

You don't have to put it in a corner just b/c it's a corner tank.

Tell my wife that!!!

But I did get her to go up to a 120G

That's a good size tank too! I traded my 120G Cherry Oak Oceanic for the 92G BF corner that you see in my avatar. http://uweb.txstate.edu/~xp42012/2003/
If you can afford to replace it, keep the top layer, but throw away the rest of the sand.

Does anyone have any advise on my Sand?

Well the floor is done and I have a spot for the new tank! We had it stained and sealed. Cost more than carpet, but very durable..

I wouldnt replace the sand. Ive moved lots of tanks and moved the sand in buckets covered w/ water. then I just dump it back into hte tank and rearrange the rock. You may have a slight algae bloom on the top surface of the sand but as the bacteria reorient themselves into their proper environment (aerobic / anaerobic) it will go away. You'll have a longer "mini-cycle" if you replace most of the sand.

My Oceanic 120Gal Tank came in on Friday. Of course they didn't ship the stand and I ordered a center overflow, not a corner! It has the new type overflow and the Diamond Belveled Corners.
