I started my nano with rock out of my big tank, some southdown, some live sand, and fresh saltwater. Is there a cycle time needed here?

Yes, anytime You disturb the rocks or the sand there will be somewhat of a cycle. Might not be much of one.

I would think it would already be cycled, but your bacteria colony is probably not large enough to support alot of inhabitants. Just start adding things slowly and start witht the more hardy thing.

IMHI , Please don't add anthing until you at least test for ammonia and ntrites. Patience is definately a virtue in this hobby.

You just took stuff from other tanks that were already established? I'd wait 10 minutes for it to cycle then load it up! I do this often with NO problems. That is the nice thing about haveing so much extra stuff around.

I would. Things won't die instantly, if they start looking bad move them back to the good tank. I'd wait a couple days first though to be sure they aren't just adjusting to the new set-up.

It took my 10Gal Nano about 5 days for the ammonia and ntrites to go away. And I used Rock and sand from my reef tank.
