might not be the greatest looking cap, but hey, it iwll work.
its a lot bigger than the ones ive seen in stores, with an "open" top. i orinally didnt want a canopy, but the retrofit lights are so much cheaper i really didnt have a choice. This is the first thing ive ever built so be kind :D

Seal it in what way?

keep the moisture out. Paint the inside w/ white enamel and just clearseal the outside. Pine will darken even when sealed and should match You stand befor long.

Sweet. thanks a lot for all of the help guys. Everybody always has somethin usefull to say.
I just wish I had a better friggin camera. I promise my tank doesnt look so dumpy. :-D
Strange thing is, my condylactus has been coming out a lot more with my power compacts gone. Can these guys get too much light? I was always informed that they really like a bunch of light, but this would lead me to believ otherwise.

Spar varnish for the outside. Same clear stuff that is used on boats.
White high temp enamel, high gloss for the inside. I got mine from sherwin williams.

Hey dude, PeeJ, if you need some of that paint I have a ton of left over from my canopy. I'm still usin it to paint my stand but I can give you some for the inside of your canopy. Hate to see it just sit here and go to waste. PM me if you want some. No charge

I have pine also, I sanded it real good, put two coats of clear stain and then 2-3 coats of Tung Oil. If it starts to wear off, you can apply another coat. It is very easy to use and looks great.
