I have something in my tank that keeps killing all sorts of hermits. I have lost 2 blue knee and a few blue legged. I haven't lost any scarlet leg hermits... yet. I lost 2 last night and about 1 per week for tha last 4 weeks. They are getting pulled from their shell and torso eated. Their are not being left by their shell so it leads me to believe that they are fight over shells. I am at a loss since the only fish are a maroon pair, small goby, 6 line wrasse and an mean purple pseudochromis. The Pseudo is on his was out as soon as I catch him. I have never seen the psuedo bother any of the hermits. I think there is still another shrimp (peppermeint or camel) that hitchhiked on some LR into the tank. Any ideas to find the murderer?

My son tossed his pseudo in the trash when he thought it was the murderer in his tank. We had a killer/murderer in our (72 gal) tank for a while, we still don't know what/who it was. Things seemed to have slowed down, maybe the killer/murderer died.
Sorry I'm not much help.

mantis maybe? Ever hear clicking? you could try the lean-glass-on-the-glass-trick, put some crabmeat or shrimp into a glass, and lean it on the glass. The hitchhiker can make it in the glass but slides back down when he tries to get out. Worked for me before, but i imagine it may not work for everyone.

Have any serpent stars? Could be that. I HAD 7 scarlets till my serpent ate em all. Now I only have two but they're really good at hiding.

i have seen my goby take snails and small crabs to his "den". there is nothing left but empty shells where he leaves them, I think he his bringing them to my pepermint shrimp since they share a home.

he is a golden head sleeper, fairly large. he shares his "den" with a pepermint shrimp and thats where the empty shells are. maybe someone else is killing them but the goby will pick snails off the ssandbed and even try and get them off the glass.

Just a thought ... what if they are being eaten after getting pulled from their shells. I have watched two crabs "fight" with it ending when one was out of its shell. The one out of shell hid and in the am it was floating around empty looking.

Does anyone know if a Red Coris wrasse is reef safe in a 110 reef? And will he fight with a banana wrasse?

Do you think he will do well in my 125 with a lionfish, shark, viper ell instead?
