I think it's time for a thread of close up images, here are some of mine:

I snaped all of these with Hammer's (ed) Nikkon Coolpix 4500, 4.5MP camera...

As far as setting go on the Coolpix 4500, I pretty had everything on auto. I use macro mode and pretty much let the camera do everything. the reason for this is because the nikons have a very annoying gui that isnt that much fun to work with unless you really get to know the camera well. Seeing as how it wasnt my camera, I didnt mess with the settings too much mostly due to time constraints.

As far as the mavica goes, there are no settings to mess with! it's an older digital camera and you can't adjust hardly anything.

Here are some pictures I took with my girlfriends Canon A70 last night, using various modes and settings I dont understand fully because I didnt have the book on me. ;)

Brett,
NICE! Do you know what the digital zoom rate is on the camera?

The only one I know the zoom on is the A70 and it was 3x (optical zoom). I never let a camera use the digital zoom function when creating macros, it isnt clear enough usually.
Personally, I do not recomend the Canon A-series (like the a70) for aquarium photography. you really need a higher end camera that is capable of getting REALLY close to the subject, in this case glass.
With the Nikon, I usually put the camera up to the glass to minimize glare....

Ask tim, I sold him that tuxedo a long time ago.

Beautiful pics Brett.

I should have spent more time learning the feature of my Nikon Coolpix 995. @ 3.34 MP it's already getting outdated.

here's some pics with an A60

Manny, those are great!

Glad to see someone else putting some images in here.

I have some questions about your settings on your A60. I am assume the ONLY different between the A70 and A60 is the optical sensor (2mp vs 3mp). My question is, what mode do you use? do you also use manual focus or the regular macro-autofocus?
Did you use a tripod?

Thanks

No tripod. Most of these pics are just autofocus macro with the flash. Some are the programmable setting using the custom white balance mode with the flash and with the AiAF mode turned off. It's really hard to get good pics in an aquarium with this camera like you said. You just gotta play with all the settings, take a million pictures, and then find the one or two that have actually come out the way you wanted em to!
Haven;t tried out the manual focus much since I figure that'd be better with a tripod. It'd also be kinda hard using the manual and taking pictures of things that move such as fish and harder than crap to catch shrimp.

Sweet Jim!

Here is that exact same coral of yours through the eyes of the canon A70.
I took this one at the meeting:

It's always awesome to compare cameras so it's easier to see what you want.
I'd personally like a canon 10D ($1500!) but I havent had the opportunity to play with one yet. Does anybody on here have one? :D

Brett,
A70 WOW! What does an A70 run for? Is that close to a G5? I like the coloring more than the Nikon.

I paid 299 for it new before christmas. since it was a gift I couldnt wait until after christmas, when it dropped to around 249 at some places.
Sometimes I see it for sale with larger memory cards and such.
Personally, I do not recomend it for reef photography. If you want a canon, the G5 or whatever the new version is would be uncomparably better then the A70. the A70 is a good point and click camera, hence, that is why I got it for someone who is going to use it for just that.
It does good with motion, outdoor, people, etc. but it has a tough time taking reef pictures.
Last night I took 120 pictures of my tank and the select few I have shown on here are the only ones I liked. And although I was playing around with a lot of settings just to see, I would get far more 'good' pictures with a camera that is more designed to take macro images. Just ask manny, he has the A60 and knows what I am talking about...

Jenn, thanks!
That is one of those green with pink/purple tip frogspawns. I think it originally came from Tim.

I think I saw you at the meeting taking that exact picture of that coral Brett. The one in the upper left of Jim's tank? You had the A70 and I was checkin out the camera to see if there were any differences in the outter appearances of the 60 and 70. Couldn't find any.

I'm jealous now. Thanks guys. LOL. I wish I had a camera that took pic's like that. I can't afford it. My tank takes all my money right now. :)
And the wife and kids get a little bit too. Just a little. ;)
