Today I was remodeling the rocks in my refugium and I shook two rocks in the back covered in detrius. This in turn caused my entire water volume to cloud up rather badly. I then noticed over the course of 1-2 minutes several bristle worms pop out of the rocks, wave their butts in the air and shoot red "stuff" into the water. Of course I freaked out, and grabbed the turkey baster and attempted to suck all of it out and didn't get pictures.. crap-ola.

But I read a little on RC, and this seems not be harmful and isn't an unheard of phenom. Anyone here seen this happen?

Sounds like they are trying out for next years Super Bowl half time show to me.

Actually never seen this before with any of mine.

Hey, if they reproduce and you end up with too many, I'll take some off your hands. Need to feed my sleeper goby. Poor guy is getting too skinny

I have these weird worms that come out at feeding time and I wonder if they are bristleworms. They have a grey section on their pinkish body and have these thorny-looking edges on their sides. I sometimes catch them and feed them to my triggers. Are these the same worm you are talking about?

Yes Jenn, those are the same type of worms. These, I believe, are fire worms. They are mostly reddish with white tufts of bristles along the sides. I also have a different type of worm that is more white and has an irridescent streak down the center.

I've heard for every bristleworm you see, there are 5-6 others you don't....

True?
