hey all,
i just came back today from seeing a potter angel for sale for about 60 bux and i did a little bit of research and im wondering if anyone has any experience with these guys, they look absolutely fantastic but i read they like to nip at a lot of things, including clam mantels and i wanted to know if i were to buy it and the teardrop maxima soon if i would have a prob??? id be putting both into a 30 gallon.

Yeah, those are pretty angels. Basically all angels are possible clam and coral nibblers. Usually only the pygmy angels do ok in reef tanks and even then if varies from fish to fish. If you really want both, I would keep them in separate tanks out of fear of losing a beautiful clam! I think it is just a roll of the dice whether it will pick on the clam or not. Perhaps if you keep the angel well fed and do not include any clam in any of its food (sometimes found in frozen foods) it will not bother with it.

Did you get another tank Steve? The one you took is only 30 gallons.

no i only have the 30, thats where my concern came from, cuz i really love those teardrops and now im torn between a beatiful animal or a beautiful animal that also eats the other one :? i think from the advice yall have given me i will go with the maxima after all (cuz i know that one wont eat anything else in the tank :P )
thanks guys, steve

Potter's have poor track record in captivity. If it were me I would not put them into anything less than a 75, preferably 100 very mature tank with tons of liverock and no competing grazers. They may suffer from dietary deficencies or colelction stress - no one is certain why they don't do well but I would place them a step below a rock beauty in hardiness , meaning usually doomed.
