I have gone blank. It isn't that hard. I put my sand in an air tight container and threw the bag away. How many pounds of Aragonite sand goes in a 55 gal set up? While I'm asking, since we now have a Home Depot, do I mix the Carib with the Southdown? Just as I think I'm catching on my husband lets us have another tank for me to practice with.

Not all Home Depots carry Southdown sand. They are usually just the ones on the east coast. If they do have it, let us know! :-) As far as how much sand to put in the 55g tank, it is really up to you. There are calculators that can figure out how many pounds of sand you need to fill a certain depth after inputing the measurements of the tank. The depth is up to you depending if you want to go with a deep sand bed or just a normal bottom. Many peoples sand beds do not act as true DSBs as they were not developed properly.

If you click on "Calculators" on the Main Menu section of this website to the side of the display, you will find a sandbed depth calculator.

Chris, thank you for the calculator. I've seen it there but just never thought about it. I need 148 lbs. Reckon we'll get some more bags of this stuff.

Russell, I gasped when I saw your answer but you were right on it. Thanks both and to all who may have other answers.
