Are they mogul or DE bulbs? I keep all types under 250 w DE/HQI's just fine.

got a 90gal reef w/ 2x250w 20K + 2x96w actinics, and some say I can keep acro-secale, but not acro-ceraleais?

I have a growing purple tip tricolor A.Ceraleais (is that spelled corretly?) with no problems and under less lighting than what you have. Its not at the bottom though. I'd say your advisor "some" is not right.
