Gotta question, kind of looks like it from Roberts picture but is it normal for these fellas to burrow down into the sand bed about 1/3 of the way. Mine seems happy, he did drop the foot that he had initially but Minh had said that would happen and it would put out a new one.

They often do this. It keep them stable and face up. Rarely they don't burrow down. These clams (those that doesn't burrow) tend to fall the the side and often benefit from place on a piece of rock.

Mine's fine; attached to a rock and very responsive to light movement. A nice clam!

Minea appears to be doing fine, although he's burries himself about half way into the sand bed. This is my first clam so I have another question. At times it has a small tube that sticks out from the mantel, just curious what this is. Looks like an area to expel water to me but wasn't sure.

Cliff - You better bring it over to my house and I'll keep it in my tank for observation for awile. I'll be certain to let you know when it's ok! :-P

Thanks Josh, that's what I figured but thought I'd ask to make sure. Mine isn't quite as open as some of the other pictures I'm seeing but he is down in the sand and not on a rock. Wonder if I should move it.

Sand are fine. How deep is your tank, and much light do you have on your tank? If the light is very bright, the clam may not open fully until he get use to it. This is fine. Feed him if there is any question about his healthy. Feeding them will really help them recover.

It's a 75 gallon with 2 400 watt radiums and 220 VHO. I believe that tank is 18 inches deep, maybe it just doesn't have it's sunglasses adjusted yet.

Yes, get him some shade. Don't put him in the middle of the tank (then he get two lights instead of one. Maybe you should really get him some shade at one end of the tank.

Mine has 15 chutes! I like it. His exit siphon is about the coolest pattern I could imagine and long enough to actually see it. I see new calcium being added to the shell. And thanks for sharing Joshua.

And I have mine on a shelf to protect it and acclimate it into a tank with copperbands. I'll be moving it to a rock soon as all is well.
