Skimmer Question

Hi, im new to maast and hope to be going to the next meeting to pay up and meet everyone. Anyways, I just got a 125g and want to make it a reef but im still getting equipment. Im a do it yourself kinda guy and want to build my own skimmer, i got some 4'' pvc and a 500gph pump. Would that be good enough for my 125? Also how tall should i make it? Thanks!

Welcome! How to see you at the meeting. I am not a very good DIYer so hopefully one or some or our other members will see this. There are afew who are VERY good and DIY projects.

The guy you're looking to talk to about this would probly be matt. Send him a pm and you can check out some of his stuff on here and he can give you some really good info.

Alot of other people on here will be able to help you out also so I'm pretty sure you'll get some help

Matt is definately the guy. He could probably sell you all the parts and you could put a killer skimmer together yourself, but a 500 gph pump won't work on a "Matt's Monster".

I guess that's me. I have no idea what kind of skimmer you're thinking about building, so I can't make any comments on your project. When you can clarify your plans a little, post here and maybe I can make some comments. But, my knowledge of skimmers is pretty specific to the kind that I build. There are all sorts of DIY plans and threads for skimmers on reefcentral and reefs.org. Good luck!
