I just setup my above tank fuge. I was running my lights 24/7 on my fuge when it was part of my sump and was considering a change. Something like 12hrs, but when my tank lights are off. Just want to get some feedback from others. thanks in advance.

I go back and forth on this depending on heat, mostly. I think the bit about 24/7 preventing caulerpa crashes is probably not true. I have read that the small critters don't really care, like they adjust to constant light, but I know that when I turn mine on after having been off for a few hours, they're really scurrying around. I'd go for the reverse cycle and if you need more caulerpa growth, try 24/7.

I'm thinking of going the reverse cycle to keep the ph swing to a minimum.

I've noticed no effect on the ph swing between running my lights on a reverse cycle and 24/7. Maybe it's there; if you have a really big fuge with LOTS of caulerpa it might have a noticable effect. I understand the logic, just never found much of an impact. As long as the lights are on at night you'll use up CO2 in the tank from coral respiration regardless if they're also on during the day.

I played around with the reverse cycle thing, but decided it made no difference. On my new setup, I will play with it some more as the fuge will be pretty big.

my fuge light are on 24/7 just because i want fast growth. i have tried the reverse cycle thing with no effect on ph. my fuge is not big enough for that. only 40 gal.
