I currently am running 2 65w pc's over a 20 long tank. I am switching over to a 30 gallon and would like to add either some VHO or metal halide lighting. I would like some guidance as to which direction I should take. I have zoo's some softies and some brains, but would like to start getting into SPS and maybe clams. I know the general feeling is the metal halides are a must for clams (maxima anyway), but would I be cool with my pc's and a few hundred more watts of VHO. let me know what you think. Thanks

Been there, done that, got the empty wallat to prove it.

Go with the MH from the beginning if you are thinking about going SPS and clams. I've spent way too much on upgrading from what I thought would work good, just to have (at least in my mind) to upgrade lights later. Lots of folks got really good deals on used lighting due to my mistakes though. You could probably go the VHO route with that size tank, just check out the pricing difference and think hard about it since you'll be spending money either way. JMO
