Where do I start, I just purchased a 175watt halide thats black, I would like to paint it silver, the paint I have just said not to paint anything that gets over 200degrees in f. Would I have a prob?? It has a polished reflector and is a rectange shape. The next prob, is that it came with a Icecap timer, Does any one know how to work on one of these, or change out the back up battery??? Last, I was wondering if anyone had a mag 9.50 for sale???

They're great until the battery start to run out, at which point, it would become tricky to replace vs. the traditional electronic timer.

As for the paint. Joshua nailed it. Use high temp engine paint. Halides can get REAL hot.

I wouldn't paint them. If the paint doesn't hold up for whatever reason and it starts peeling guess where it is going to end up..... They are usually powder coated which is a baked on paint I believe. What if the salty air humidity gets between the coating and your new paint? Too big of a risk in my opinion.

Talk to him he would have better advice. They could probably shoot more paint and re-bake it, of course you'd have to disassemble the light.

You might be able to find a high-temp paint that would work but I would not mess with it.

Powder coating is a good option but is probably not cost effective.

Regular spay paint will hold up if you keep decent cooling on the fixtures. But the first time a fan goes out your paint will peel.

Hide the fixtures with a fake cabinet front. Build an open top canopy to hide them.

Tim is right. I didnt even think about the peeling, if it eve does. You dont want that in your water. Powdercoating is the best option.
