this is not alex, this is his younger brother chris.

I need some help, I am watching my brother's house while he's on his cruise for the week. I was sitting in the living room watching television and i heard a squeaking noise coming from his larger aquarium. Upon turning around I am seeing alot of small air bubbles coming from one of the blowers. I remember my brother saying something about his fish suffocating under these circumstances. This may not be the case, as I am not as educated about aquariums as you people, but it's better to be safe than sorry and I know that this is the best place to ask for assistance. I believe that one of you (Old Salty? is that right? ) will be coming by to feed and take care of the fish, but I'm not sure when you're coming and I just wanted to make sure this isn't a problem before it's too late. The water level appears to be full and normal? Help?

The water level in the sump is probably a little low. The sump is the tank under the tank (it is in the stand). Alex should have some water in a storage container that he made. It should be freshwater. It would have come from his reverse osmosis system (which I think he keeps on the back patio). If you add some of that to the sump, it should stop it. Old Salty will know where it is.

You had me going there for a second. I was like: he just left on his honeymoon and already he went and got a hold of a computer to ask us for help? :o What's wrong with that picture. Is there anything he didn't know about? :wtf: Did he go thinking again? :-D
Not that I can help much with the problem at hand since I don't know the set-up well enough, but I am glad to see You were his brother.

The second you go on vacation, the tank knows. IT KNOWS!

ok , now im using his RO to produce salt water, for the tank. that thing operates on it's own right? i dont have to do anything except let it run and then pour some water into the sump tank when theres enough water in the bucket, right? should i just wait for old salty or should i attempt to put the water from the bucket into the tank? i think my brother would kill me if i screwed something up..

Chris,
Alex has two tanks under his large display tank. The one on the Left is the sump. He has a line marked on there for where the water level should be kept. Its a black fill line on the right side of the sump tank at the lowest level. The tank on the right under in the stand is his refugium. If you run his RO/DI for water, that will be FRESH water. One line is a waste line and you must let that line drain out into the yard. The RO/DI line is the one you will collect water from. It is the one that has the lowest water volume coming from it. You do NOT want to add salt water to replace what has evaporated because the salt does not evaporate, only the "fresh" water part does.

theres a small black hose coming from the RO and and a white one with a shutoff valve on the end of it, the white one is the one that ive seen him put into buckets before, do i use this one to produce the water that i will be putting into the tank?

I've seen his RO unit. I believe its the one with the white line with the shut off and black line is waste. If you try it, that one should be the one with the lowest water volume flowing out of it. If you saw him put that into a bucket, that is the water he is using and that is the good RO line for the tank water.
