January's meeting is at my house from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on saturday the 31st! The TOPIC (and I want everyone to give their input) is LIGHTING! I would like everyone who comes to detail their lighting system(s). Main focus is to to learn and to share! Because there are MANY great ways to light a tank.
Also this would be a GREAT time to help frag my tank! ;) So bring bags and rubber bands!

I can meet you at the Wal-Mart by Highway 6 & 90 (close by to the Imperial Sugar Factory & New Territory Neighborhood.)

Or I can meet you at Sam's Club by Highway 6 & I-10 (across the street from the Holiday Inn high rise.)

Sizes are about 3 to 3 1/2 inches. $7.50 of the $37.50 will go to the club. These are $60.00 to $75.00 clams. What do you think?

This is a one-time opportunity for me to obtain these clams. I only have a limited numbers of these Maxima. I think we should put a one-clam limit per person unless there are leftover. This is only my suggestion. It is up to Jim to decide. This price is really a steal for these clams. You can mail order these clams for about 75 dollars each.
There are five Ultra Crocea also.

Well, I confess; I'm ignorant. I only have a coralife powercompact on my tank, and I can't remember for the life of me what MH stands for. Metal Halide? I work in the medical field, and MH stands for malignant hyperthermia... So, if clams can only have mh lights, Why is that so?

Tim Marvin
Fri, 16th Jan 2004, 10:15 PM
To keep the rest of the tank warm....LOL.... I wouldn't recommend packing ice around the clam though, or pushing any drugs..... MH is for Metal Halide lamps...They can survive under other lights, but MH's are preferred to keep them in the best health.

OrionN
Fri, 16th Jan 2004, 10:15 PM
So, if clams can only have mh lights, Why is that so?
Maxima and Crocea clams are the two species of clams that require the brightest of light to do well. One can provide these light level with MH lights. There will be people who state that their Crocea and Maxima do well with other types of light. This may be true but my experiences suggested otherwise. Certaily the margin for error would increase greatly with MH light as oppose to lesser light intensity.

Minh

PS- Are you sure MH does not stand for malignant hyperthermia

I used the GARF plugs and you are right, they work great. I have been looking for a "coolie hat" drill bit to make a mold to start making them myself. I have everything to make the plugs. Maybe someone on here has one. I hate to spend a bunch of money to buy one, they aren't cheap, for a one time use. Maybe I can start making them for anyone else that wants some.

I would appreciate anything you can bring. Dry is no problem. Xenia aren't picky.

Thought I have alittle fun now! I have lots of frags in my tank that I will frag and give to members at this up and coming meeting. These are from me to you. BUT! I will frag my rare of rare acropora colony! I will create 5 frags. There is a price of $10.00 for each frag that will be donated to MAAST! Now for the fun! If you want a frag --- somewhere in this website I have posted a picture of the colony and marked it FRAG. The first 5 to find it and state so in this thread will get one!
Happy hunting!

Lol Josh you can not find what?

Thank you so much Jim. I have a Tank I want to setup but until I get this darn salt water Roach problem under control in my other tank I do not want to set it up. But then again I guess I could throw my 200lbs of live rock outside in a garbage can and start fresh hmmmmmmmm naaaaaaa that would be wayyyyyyyy too expensive lol.

That was a fun little adventure!! Anybody know who to call for a gas leak in an apt. complex. Called my apt. emergency maint. and nobody's here yet. Need to find someone. This is bad. Sorry to hijack the thread Jim

Manny open the windows and doors depending on how bad the leak is. Find where it is and shut off that gas valve. Or you can vacate the room call CPS and they will come out and turn the gas off. But not only to your place but the building. So if you need gas for anything do not expect it to be back on within a couple of days. Because once CPS shuts it off then they will come back and cap off all connections in the building and do a leak down test before they will turn the gas back on to the building and then you can hook everything back up again that the gas is needed for.

I just felt like gettin this thing back on topic from what was posted yesterday by postin what I'm bringin to the meeting with me....Wasn't there a thread on who was bringin what to the meeting??? Neways I can't find it so I'm postin here...Does anybody else like powdered donuts besides me or am I just weird? Think a couple bags of powdered donuts'll work? I know that nobody else'll bring that. If nobody likes powdered donuts I'll just eat em all by myself

LOL alright Josh. I think I could frag some of mine and take some but I'm not quite sure how to do it without makin a big mess :?

captexas
Mon, 26th Jan 2004, 03:52 PM
Manny - for fragging, just lay the donut flat and make one cut across it with a knife so it is in two pieces. Sometimes if a knife is not available you can simply take the donut in your hands and break it into pieces. I've always had good luck doing it that way! :-P

That's a good tip Josh. I prefer the milk method. I forgot to mention that to prevent making a mess, it's a good idea to do your fragging over a napkin or paper towel. Wife usually gets mad when she has to clean up after donut fragging. I have to admit I have not done much fragging myself as I like to keep my donuts to myself. :-)

I will be leaving the meeting at 3pm so if anyone wants to get anything from my house I will be available from 11pm until 2pm. Bring bags and containers if possible. I'll try to get the acropora over to Jim's house before hand.
Thanks,

Twas the night before the meeting.
And I am still cleaning!

Thanks to ClamsDirect, LiquidLife, SPS Frags, Austin Aquarium for the donations. And I know there are some more.
I promise the meeting will not be a bore.

As you come into the house do not worry that the lights on the tank are dim.
I will be standing there and my name badge will say Jim.

I am going to show the 4 stages of lighting on my tank.
Then you all will know why TXU (electric company) takes all my money in the bank.

After the meeting I will start the fragging.
And like last time the next day my a__ will be dragging.

But do not leave early for I am saving the best for last!
And this will make more money for MAAST!

I will AUCTION a frag of my PURPLE monti cap to the highest bidder! And of course all the money will be given to the club!!!

I am really looking forward to seeing you all! And meeting any new members!

Jim
P.S. The first picture in my gallery has a picture of the PURPLE cap!
