Freshwater stores in San Antonio?

I know this is a forum for reef aquariums but I am wondering if there are any really good freshwater stores in San Antonio. I live in Austin and have explored all the ones here and would just like to see what S.A. has to offer. I have a planted tank that I'm working on, so if you know of someone who has plants, that would be a big help.

I used to have a freshwater planted tank myself and had a hard time finding plants here in S.A. Before they closed, I would get plants from Aquarium Sales and Service. Also, a couple of the PetsMarts would have a decent selection, but that would depend on the department manager and if you got there within a day or two of when the orders came in. The only other place in S.A. that sometimes has a variety of plants is Fintique on West Avenue. I would always check out Aquatek when I was in Austin as they were usually better than anything here.

I have been going to Aquatek and they definitely do have a good selection there. Also, the employees are very knowledgeable as far as planted tanks.

I've also had some luck at Austin Aquariums. They are mainly a marine store but they have a few plants and a decent selection of freshwater fish. Yesterday, they had a new shipment of Dwarf Puffers (which is what I'm wanting to keep in my tank). They were selling theirs for only $3.00 apiece while Aquatek sells theirs for $6.99!!!!!!

Ah well, just wanted to see if San Antonio had anything I didn't know about. Thanks for your response!

I'm thinking about starting up a planted tank too. But I don't know much about planted tank. Since I don't know anything about planted tank, I was going to collect the plants from the San Marcos river at Sewell park. Aside from the freezing weather, they're pretty easy to collect. I think that I do have to watch out for parasite from the wild plants. When I 1st got started in freshwater 4 years ago, I put some plants from the SM river into my tank, and wiped out about 30 feeders gold fish. I don't know if it's b/c of the tank being new, parasite, or overloading. Many of those plants in the river have algae growing on them. You can find Texas Cichlid in the San Marcos and other local rivers.
I was just going to experiment with growing wild plants, learning how to take care of them b4 I would pay for the cultured plants from the stores.

Texas Tropicals on Vance Jackson usually has a variety of freshwater fish and some unusuals every so often as well as Fintique on West Avenue.

I had also thought about using local plants/animals for my tank... specifically from the San Marcos river (I'm a student at Texas State by the way). I had no idea there were Texas Cichlids there!
