Here is a shot of the new skimmer I just received from Matt. This baby stands 34 inch tall and will be run on a Mag-12 to start out. Well done Matt! One of the best quality skimmers I have ever seen.

Yano, why don't you put one of those on your 10 gal.? It would just about double your water capacity.

I buy wholesale so it would be best to get a quote from Matt. I will say it wasn't "cheap", but high quality never is. I don't think I'll ever have to buy another skimmer. From what I have gathered from Matt this is made from all the highest quality materials and should last forever if taken care of. It looks better than any skimmers I have seen, and very rigid construction two thumbs up and both big toes as well!

It is a beckett skimmer. I don't know what you mean by "in line", though.

Thanks for posting the pic and the kind words, Tim!

You can't put it in-line because you need a high flow pump. If you were to put it at the sump between the return pump and the tank you can't control the water level. So no it is not an inline. I don't know of any skimmers that are. That is usually for chillers and other types of filter designed to run slightly pressurized. I am plannning on hooking it up today though and will get some pictures of it running.

I just ordered one of those bad boys. Let me know how it works. I can't wait to get it. Not cheap, but after seeing the quality on my calcium reactor I got from Matt, I decided it was well worth the money. I think it is the best value out there. The calcium reactor I got was very nice and way better than anything that I found that was commercially made. Very impressed.

I also am a proud owner of a Matt Skimmer. It is doing a wonderful job! I have it located in my sump. It is being powered by a mag 12. I spend many weeks deciding on which skimmer to buy---PM, AquaC, Euroreef, MyReefCreations and more. IMO I have the best one!

I think Matt is gonna have to go to teaching part time at UTSA and set up a work shop at his house to support his growing fan club!

Matt, the MACO course you took was it online or in a class room?

Tim, did you get any pics after hooking it up?

Yeah, for the moment I'm building them in my kitchen. It is convenient for snacking! Thanks for saying these nice things, guys. I sure hope nobody has a disaster with one. Once again, though, I would urge anyone who has an interest in learning more about these devices to take the MACO course offered by Brian Ferguson. Both the skimmer and reactor I'm building are based on his design, and that's why they work well.

No, I'll go see if I can get some pictures today.

Tim, it ocurred to me that I never hooked up your skimmer to make sure the injector was seated correctly. Please let me know if it's working right. You should get it going with no air, when the water level is stable about 3" or so from the top of the foam tube, start to crack open the air a bit. At some point you'll hear a hissing sound and the tube will fill up with really tiny bubbles. If it girgles loudly, as opposed to hisses, you either have the air open too much or the injector isn't seated right. If you can, post a few pictures that show the tube, and the injector housing.

Thanks, Matt

by "in line" i meant can you hard plumb it outside of your sump...not in line with anything. just not sitting int he sump. cuase that looks lioke it would take up a lot of spays.

Yeah, you can run them external; in fact, they're probably better that way. You can use a good external pump then, and you don't have any issues about changing water level in the sump affecting the skimmer drain. They do take up some space; 6.5" by 11" footprint, plus a big gate valve sticking out a couple of inches.

Matt, I took out the injector after you left just to look at it. It is up and running perfect! I am going to post some pictures in my album.

OK I posted pictures of this monster in the gallery. Note the Kent nautilus turbo-eductor next to it. If you have seen the kent, now you have an idea of just bad a** this monster is. The turbo eductor isn't a tiny skimmer.

Man that thing is huge. That thing is twice the size of the nautilus. I was thinking of getting a nautilus, but not anymore.

It is a little more than twice the size. It has ONLY been running for one day also and has produced more scum than the kent. I can't wait until it gets broke in.

Tim;

Looks like it's working fine. You might try putting it on a block so the water level of the tub is near the output so that there's no back pressure on the drain. It might not make much difference because the water level in these skimmers runs real high. You'll have to close down the gate valve a bit after doing this.
