Lighting Question

What are the pros and cons of,MH,Flouresent,Mercury vapor,Halogen, and any other lights that might be used? Just curious about the different applications that might be possible and what there effects might be?

I'd start by reading the section of Eric Borneman's book "Aquarium Corals" that discusses lighting. Then I'd start to look for on line articles by Sanjay Joshi; there's probably a million of them. You've asked a question for which there is no short answer. Have fun reading, and good luck separating opinion from fact!

Most of the above mentioned lights will work if they have the correct color spectrum. most halogen, mercury vapor, and hps bulbs fall outside of the best/preferred color specs. The best bulb or light will depend on what you plan to keep along with the size/depth of tank.
