If this stuff can really stop aiptasias from spreading, I'll buy stock in the company. Anxiously awaiting your results. Maybe you can kind of document what happens, like how many aiptasias you have now, whether any new ones appear in the area of ones you kill, etc.

If it works, lets do a group order.

You could save some money by just injecting them with kalkpaste or boiling water.

I found it on this topic on reefcentral...

People had mixed results with kalk and boiling water but everyone that posted about Joe's Juice had good luck. Figured it was worth a shot for $10.

I will keep y'all updated.

I recieved mine in the mail today. I tested it on a couple of anemones. The box says that it works in minutes. The anemones sure did not like it. I will see over the next couple of days if it did indeed work. I will then test it around some of my corals and see what happens. If all goes well I will document how it works and the steps I used in dosing it.

Great, i can't wait to hear about it. I'm once again battling aiptasias; man do those things reproduce fast.

What is in JJ ? It seems odd to me that folks worry about adding trace suppliments cause they call them toxic heavy metals, but then on the other hand will add some unknown poisin to kill a creature that is very similar to all the things we strive so hard to keep. Does the manufacturer list the chemicals in this stuff??

Good point, Larry. But this is a one time event, as opposed to regular additions. Maybe it's sodium cyanide! Who cares, as long as it gets rid of the dreaded evil buggers, hehe.

Actually, I've got some of the most infested pieces of liverock out of my tank in another tank. I'm gonna try your screwdriver/torch bit, right after I learn for the thousanth time that peppermint shrimp won't eradicate the stuff.

Let me borrow your rocks for a while. I got some aiptasia killers on my hands and they would love the treat!

I can get your peppermints to eat those things, if they are truly peppermints and if they are healthy.

I am going try the peppermints again, but I don't want them in my main tank. I'll put a couple in a 30 gallon tank with some infested rock. What I'm afraid will happen is that if they eat the aiptasia, then I put the rock back in the tank, it will just reappear. They're not going to get to all the tissue. This is why I want to try the ultimate darth vader style death star treatment.

Prof,

I have tried it and think it is great.

See this thread: http://www.maast.org/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=3380

As it says there, Joe's Juice is in stock at AA and priced at $9 a bottle.

My 48 clown trigger/softy tank was full of aiptasia. I though i'd give it a try and pick up a bottle from Austin Aquariums. Two hours later and my tank has no more aiptasias. This is very cool stuff!

So far, so good with me too.

It works best if you can get it right on them when the tenacles are out. For some of the bigger one it has taken more than one dose and the small ones retract before you can get close to them.

JJ looks like a mix of kalk or something similar and a light wesson oil colored liquid. I think the aptasia sees it as food and does not know the effects until it is too late.

I treated one that was right in the middle of my orange zoos. The zoos did not like the poking but came back out the next day and the aptaisia did not.

I bought some a while back, and it worked great!

Aquatek has it now, too.

I got some through Austin Aquariums as well. It went to town on the one that I had. I have been watching for three to four weeks and have not seen any signs of it, or others appearing.

I used it; it seems to be basically KW in solution with some sort of additive that keeps the KW from precipitating; I've heard lemon juice, I've heard vinegar. Anyhow, the stuff has a ph of over 10. i used it on some heavily infested rocks; it killed them but they came back. Granted, I'm pretty sure i was not able to see all the aiptasias when i used it. The stuff is probably pretty good for aiptasia control, not complete extinction. If you really got to them before they started reproducing, you might eradicate them. Not me... now i have a copperband, which is terrific because it eats any that pop up.
