Personally I would not use a sand so fine that it drifted up on my rocks very far. If it did, I'd leave it there and let the critters and wavemaker blow it off, just like on the reef. Too find a sand is not too great for filter feeders. What a waste of time it is for them to consume and excrete sand. No value in that at all and may be the cause of premature demise of many filter feeders. In addition to bristle worms, there is a worm that lives in rock that has some mantis like jaws. They're nasty little rascals. They'll bit anything they can grab from what I've seen.
