Does anyone know why my cleaner shrimp is hanging out on my cucumber? He has been on it constantly since I added the cucumber to my tank on Thursday.

I'm not sure why Jen but this just reminded me that when I was readin up on sea whips I learned that cucumbers have a sybiotic relationship with them kinda like a clown with an anemone.... Just some info I wanted to share with everybody who got sea whips from Gary the other day at the meeting

Sorry I couldn't answer your question Jenn

Cleaners are Lysmata family. Same as the peppermints. They eat mucus from these, and is one of the many animals they bother.
If you feed the cleaners, they may eventually leave the cukes alone. Peppermints will aggrivate them incessantly
till there is nothing left. While they are being aggrivated, they will not feed and if continued for a long time, the
shrimp gets a meal cause the cuke dies.

Instar, thanks for the help. You always have helpful info. The cuke is not looking good. I moved him away from where the shrimp likes to hang out, but now he is down on the sandbed. I checked to see if he was still alive, and he moved when touched, but I am worried about him. Don't know what else to do. I have fed, checked temp. & water conditions and everything checks out good.
