I know there was a thread about this earlier, but what is the best CALCIUM test kit? I have the red sea one, and it gave me 2 different reading within 25 min of each other. First was 350, then 300

Salifert test kits are the best. I have not been able to find them at any of the local stores though. I get mine online or through ebay sometimes.

Alex,

Some of the variation may just be from technique. Just make sure you are measuring the reagents the same way every time and don't have any "hanging drops."

All of the Calcium kits I have used are based on the same chemistry. The only real difference could be in freshness of the reagents.

Actually, I think the Salifert delivery set up is more accurate than the others, because you get a titration tip on a syringe and can actually measure the amount of reagent, as opposed to just counting drops. Never used Lamotte, though. Once I was checking my calcium with a different test kit (Kwikkit) and I couldn't get Ca levels above 300. Since I was working on the reactors at the time, this was disturbing news; I thought my reactor wasn't working. Then the Salifert test kit came in, and the same water tested at 420.
