Will this type of algae be a problem if coating a Mag 9.5 in the sump/refug? I have a 65W PC 10K over the refug and this pump is just inches over and the pink algae is coating almost everthing. Should I clean off regularly?

The coraline shouldn't be a problem on the outside of the pump. However you should be cleaning your pumps anywhere from 6months to a year. This means the impeller and impeller housing.

I have had Rio pumps before where I did internal cleaning quite often. I thought Mags wouldn't need that much attention.

All pumps need regular cleaning otherwise their performance will suffer and you can shorten their lifespan.

I have been very surprised by my mag pumps. Every time I clean them the impeller is in great shape even if the outside of the pump looks like heck.
