Catching sand crabs is the fun thing for kids to do when at the beach in California. My brothers and I would have contest to see who could catch the most and biggest. They usually live about an inch under the sand right where the waves meet the beach. After the waves go back if you see bubbles coming up from the sand, that's a sand crab. I didn't know they could live in a reef tank submerged all the time.

I've had them, but not for 8 dollars! They generally don't live long in a tank as they live on the beach in the crashing surf. You can pick some up at South Padre for free. If you succeed in feeding them enough plankton to keep them a few months, that's about all you'll likely get out of them. They are fun to watch and they'll keep your sand stirred up good.

That is 5 for $8. Still sounds like a lot.
