What the heck is in your water supply to clog up the RO/DI so quick? YOu sure it's hook up right?

You mean Chloramines? If you don't know if it's still removing chlorine, try to bring the end product to the LFS to test the chlorine content for you. It's natural for Astrea to fall off the rock, or is all your snails falling off again.

The top vertical cartridge on top is probably dead if you let the bottom horizontal cartridge get too bad.

Sorry, I don't know what to buy at HD. Maybe JimD still have "Blue"'s email that sale RO/DI parts. I think the top vertical filter is about $60 to replace at hobby price. If I were having that bad of your problem repeatedly, I would've ditch everything and buy a whole new kit.

The one Tim's talking about cost about $150 I think. It's not very reef friendly looking w/ the brass parts; I don't think they come with quick disconnect neither.

Josh, are you getting atleast 4 times worth of waste water.

My RO membrane gave out on me aswell and according to AQRS it's because of the bad water and trying to force the water through the membrane, they said to produce atleast 4 times the waste water for it to last longer.

Wow, and you have no bid on it yet.
On one of these systems is it possible to rig it up to just run it from a standard outside faucet/hose?

Yes,

If you look a little further down in the auction, you will see that he also sells "optional" sink aerator and hose adapters for $8 each.

Josh,
Try Aquaticreef.com. Its the best RO/DI site IMO. Thats where I got My unit. They Sell GOOD filters. Carbon blocks are 10 bucks and are 1 micron, the di are 19.95 and the sediment at 1 micron are 5.95. I wouldnt use home depot filters. I've done a lot of research on ro/di, you can e-mail me and I may be able to help you adjust your unit.

If you are going to order from Aquatic Reef Systems Please let me know. They are great people to deal with and have a great product at a very good price. I know they are very good people since I drove them nuts for awhile lol. They kinda made me a test bed for there system lol. It seems as if most people have too low of water presure for the system and some require a presure pump to help out but oh no not me lol. I had wayyyyyyyyyy too much presure so they gave me a DI that would flow more yet still produce good water. And some kind of presure reliefe as well. Oh my water presure is right at 100pounds :). I need to get some replacement filters from them. :).

Josh the above link is the one I have and I have had no problems to date. I called to ask for a little help with set up and they stayed on the phone with me and helped. It includes everything and was easy to install, but I wasnt understanding the 6th stage which I was told if I wasnt going to drink the water it isnt necessary.

I just ordered a TDS meter and auto shutoff valve from Marine Depot. I didn't know about Aquatic Reef Systems yet. I've got a red algae bloom and need to find something to blame.

If my new meter says I need filters, maybe I'll try Aquatic Reef Systems. Joshua, it looks like we're both NW San Antonio so I'll let you know when I order.

Got my TDS meter today. I'm getting 271ppm out of my ro/di filter. That seems pretty high to me. At what point do you start changing out parts? The setup is only six months old.

I went ahead and got some filters from Marine Depot. I was anxious. At this rate I think I'm poisoning my reef with my topoff water until at least monday. Marine Depot gave me good service on my last order. I did it on the internet after 5:00pm and they shipped it the same day. Of course they have a 2 hour advantage. I think they are in California.

My tap water also measures about 320ppm. I can replace all that fancy filter stuff with a piece of pipe and get about the same performance that I'm getting now. I'm going to have to keep a closer eye on it from now on.

Let that be a lesson to all of you out there. It's only 6 months old.

Just a thought for the people that are running it off the sink like I am, if the garbage disposal isnt clear then it will need more pressure to get rid of the waste than it normally would ... so keep the drain clear ...
