The lion will ambush them all eventually. Put in a school of goldfish instead.

Maybe it would work if it was an extremely large tank with mature chromis and a well fed lion but I would still not do it,

I have 50.00 on the Lion. He will get them eventually. He'll get anything that'll fit in his mouth. Mine used to stuff his real bad. Appetite was ALWAYS larger than his mouth. LOL
I did loose the Damsels to him.

If you can train the lion to eat frozen shrimp and feed it well you probably won't have a problem.

I have a huge lion in w/ my triggers and I put a damsel, @ least 2" in size back into their tank (the damsel lived there for almost a year before). The lion didn't even motion towards it - but that may be because within 10 minutes, I caught the triggers tearing him up. It was real weird cause this damsel had only been away from them for like 2 weeks. :(
This doesn't give you much of an answer, but I think that you have a 50/50 chance if the damsel is first, and the lion is feeding on frozen food.

I'd have to go with the Lion. The only damsel that I ever saw survive with a Volitan was a friend's large Dominoe - and it was meaner than snot (sp?). The tank also had a couple of medium size triggers. And Green Chromis are usually fairly docile fish, probably even in a school would be pretty stressed.
My Dwarf Lions took out a terrorist Dominoe which I thought had a decent shot with them. The lions hunted for about a month and I am sure the damsel eventually became dinner. I never saw him again.

Josh please don't put the chromis in the tank. It would be good entertainment, but no very nice.

Josh,
I have seen some green chromis that are around 3.5" long that might survive in a school with a smaller lion for a while the problem is that they will eventually break away from the school from what I have seen., and then the lion will get them. hope that helps.

hey josh, well i had like 8 chromis damsels in my 55 along with a large clown trigger and a huge lionfish, all you need to do is make sure he eats well, dont let him starve, cause then he'll munch out!!! try it, other ppl do worst things to them , by cycleing with them, know what i mean!!!

Josh - lions are kind of lazy when swimming/cruising but their strike is surprisingly fast. They would make a meal out of the chromis eventually IMO. I have been trying to catch my dwarf lions on ideo gobbling ghost shrimp - it's like a blur.

I put a large brittle star in my 150 to try to get rid of my yellow tail damsels. They are too hard to catch.
You could rent the lion out for this reason.

It is kinda cool to watch the lion "dance" while stalking its prey.
My triggers are definitely plump & round, and they still ate my damsel. Seems like they are always hungry.

Heres where they may end up. This is a pretty crazy pic, but I have never seen the underside of a lion.
