I have a 30 gallon reef tank, which has been up for 9 months. Currently, I serve in the USAF at Lackland. I've been drooling over a larger tank for months now, but am short when it comes to cash. I love sw fishkeeping and can spend great amounts of time visually "exploring" my tank. I've got some discs and polyps, and a galaxia that may or may not recover(I'll tell you about that later... :? ). As far as fish go, I've got 1 true perc, 2 false percs, a banded goby, a yellow tang(I know, I know, it needs a larger tank, hence my desire posted above...), a mandarin and 4 blue damsels. There's also several hermit crabs, a coral-banded shrimp, a sand-shifting starfish, and two anemones. I also know that I have a heavy bio-load, but I hope to get that larger tank before the occupants grow large enough to become a problem...
Well that's me... Talk to ya later, y'all. ;-)

Welcome to the board, and yes agreed you need a larger tank.
How long have you been in for and what do you do. I'm currently a software developer at AFPC and will be in about a year.

It sounds like you're in a similar situation to the one we're in! We've got a 43 gallon cube with a heavy bio load and barely adequate filtration. Our tank has been up for 15 months, and it's pretty healthy, but we do weekly water changes (5 gallons at a time) to help keep the nitrate boogie man off our backs :-o We've got a LOT of live rock and a fairly deep sand bed in this cube, however, and these have helped us tremendously so far. Do we need a bigger tank for our livestock? YES. It has been our experience to date that a well maintained system CAN handle more "fish inches" per gallon than is typically recommended....but sooner or later the numbers will probably catch up to us....and to you....the only question is when. We have some photos in the image gallery, but to give you an idea, here's the fish list for our 43:
Sailfin Tang
2 False Percs
Dragon Goby
Gulf Blennie
Orchid Dottyback
Mandarin
Six Line Wrasse
Add to that our populations of LPS, Zoos, Mushrooms, Xenia, Torch Coral, Hammer Coral and very large LT Anemone, and you've got a **** heavy bio load going on!
We're keeping our eyes open for good deals on larger tanks, but our hands are also tied with uncertainty about job relocations and a concern over where the heck we'd actually PUT a bigger system. I'd bet there are lots of folks out there who are in a similar situation. Anyway, we're always more than willing to get a dialogue going, so welcome and feel free to PM anytime!

Welcome to MAAST. I would suggest you keep your eyes open for a good deal on a used larger tank; people in the club are always buying/selling/trading and you can find a great deal. It looks like I'll have a drilled 100 gal tank only for sale pretty soon.

Well, Matt, how much would you be looking to sell your tank for? I'm always scanning the classifieds, hoping to find some desparate person who's moving or ignorant and willing to sell their setup for a good deal! :skeezy:
brewercm, I've been in for just over 10 years and I'm a surgical technician (and amateur fish keeper!).
BTW, moderators, over at another fishkeeping online forum/retail sitev which I really enjoy, they have catagories similar to the major topics listed in this forum. I don't know if it's been tried/suggested before, but with my search for a larger tank in mind, what about adding a major catagory called "Trading & Classifieds", or something like that? I'm sure there's alot of people who might use that catagory, who're looking for a particular frag, zoo, tank, or whatever...[/b]

Oh, here's a pic of my tank... It's not too good, I've got a terrible camera. I've also recently added a really nice, large piece of LR in the center open area... I'll update the pic soon

Moonrs,
Another welcome from a member in the far northern section of our S.A. club. I would agree that everyone can use a bigger tank. I think it comes with the hobby!
As you can well see the members make this a VERY special club.

Joshua, it's weird, but up until just now when I did a site search, the only forums that were displayed were the first 5 listed. The results showed a for sale forum and I was able to navigate to it. Now all the available forums are showing up. Weird. I figured it out, though. It's because I was in the basic forums page, rather than the Index. Thanks for letting me know.

Welcome to MAAST Moonrs!
Just keep up with your water changes till you get a larger tank. Enjoy the show in the one you have and don't sweat the size for now. If they are fed right and kept in clean water, they'll be happy as long as everyone has a hole to sleep in. That tang will take a while to grow up, so you have time. But, everyone needs a bigger tank and more than one. So you're right in there with the rest of us.

I"m looking for a larger tank!!!! :) Seriously, I am, but I'm Very short on cash atm a nd will be for the
forseeable future(like at least the next 6 months). So I'm keeping my fingers crossed, hoping another saint will come along on the "for sale" part and pull a surprize like Reefer did and offer a 100+ gallan tank for free, or at least for an insane(meaning low) price. Hey, I can hope, can't I? :)
