I have a heater that is malfunctioning, so I thought I would use it to warm up my salt water that I had mixed for a water change. And boy did I. When I checked on the temperature it was/is 120.4. Thank God I pulled the heater from my tank at the first sign of a problem. The heater is relatively new, less than 6 months old and is made by Via Aqua.

So ... once the water cools down is it okay to still use it? or does high temperature change chemical compositions? or otherwise mess up the saltwater?

P.S. I have Ebo Jagers in all of my tanks now.

You didn't boil the water, just heated it up a bit. Cooled and areated for a day it should be fine. Check the salinity and adjust it to where you want it and use it. Thats what I would do. I've had a couple of the new light weight printed circuit heaters fail. There is nothing like a good heater.

All you should have done was increased the evaporation rate of the water and jacked up your salinity a little bit. Like Larry said, make sure it is well aerated. Oxygen has inverse solubility in water. That means the hotter it gets the less oxygen it will hold in solution. You don't want to be dumping low oxygen water into your tanks.
